Q1 DM Server Question
I have zQuake, which requires QW to be installed, and it is a client/server all in one. I setup zQuake w/ QW on a friend's computer just down the road, he is on 56k.

I start a server (I'm on DSL), by going to Multiplayer/New Game. He tries to connect to my IP and we tried ports :27500 and :27015 if I understand these are the most common.

He keeps getting the looped 'connecting...' message. What has me curious is, if I alt+tab back to the desktop, my zQuake taskbar window says:

ZQuake: local

Does it say 'local' because I am hosting, or does it mean it is limited to LAN play only, and that I am missing something?

Fix your router by opening port 27500 (the default port that qw uses).

The 'local' means you are connected to localhost`, which is your own computer.
Okay OKAY.
Someone put Blues back up.
Yeah Wtf
its been down for 2 days now... Best not be dead! :(
Okay OKAY.
Someone put Func back up.
Aha
I have discovered the secret of what makes you all so horny for Floyd.

Pushplay
Floyd seems to have places for 3 !!! Do you really think he is a "partouzeur" ??
I Don't Think So.
Looks more like a multiple redundant backup scenario to me.
Happy Birthday

Metlslime...
...just thought I'd let you know, I loaded up NVidia's latest drivers last night (v66.xx) and Fitzquake launched without a problem. So FQ does run sans problem in XP SP2. I'm almost back in business, just need to dump my .rmf files onto the new machina.

By the by, the Doom3 Demo launched without a problem too. Stunning! Gameplay was a let down. Now I know what mutant owl neck syndrome is.
Err?
I wasn't aware there was a potential problem with FQ, NVidia cards, and XP SP2.

The drivers I'm using are 6.6.9.3 or something.
Distrans:
glad to hear it, becuase i was stumped.

rpg: this was just a problem he was having on one machine. Not a general FQ issue.
Start Your Engines
A new version of both Q2K4 (glQuake), and Quake2maX (QuakeII) have recently been released. If your inerested and want to check them out.

Q2K4
Hmm
Well, you can probably turn stuff on/off, to make it look as you want. The last version I tried, looked just like regular glquake, without much pain. I haven't actually tried this one though.

Someone kill me
Now
I would say the same for any engine that didn't support model interpolation. O_o
Apparently The Blue Shambler Light Is A Quakec Change
so if you just use the engine without the special progs, wierd stuff like that isn't there...

interestingly, it has support for perpolygon collision detection. :)
He He (my Kissing Up For The Day)
as long as you dont mind being resurrected afterwards. The world without Shambler would be a sad, sad place.

Lately, I have been using MHQuake. The eyecandy is not overwhelming, in some ways very subtle, like texture resampling which brings out the nice details that get lost in the UV polygon translations. Also, older levels without water transparency get revised. The ugly water texture I used in Dkt_Norway (somehow over looked the two water textures in the pack that were nice. D'oh) looks much better in this engine then any other.
I Am Cocks

New
mhquake is actually decent, I like whatever he's done to the texture rendering as well.

Still, I want documentation as I want to be able to turn off some of the 'features'
Video Card Corruption
I'm aware that this isn't a tech forum, but I'll ask the question just in case anyone has had a similar experience.

Two nights ago my Radeon 9800 PRO went to VPU recover in the middle of QW after the screen started going crazy with checkered patterns and colors everywhere (the best way I can describe it is like a malfunctioning NES cart)

I thought it was weird, but it reset fine, and I kept gaming. Yesterday the card did the exact same thing 3 or 4 different times, except this time the screen stayed like that, and there was no VPU recover. Now I'm at the point where the screen is getting corrupted in Windows 5 minutes after I boot, and the system locks.

This basically happened apropo of nothing at all. I didn't install any new drivers, didn't adjust anything, it just happened. My card's fan is spinning, it looks ok on the surface, and there isn't anything else weird going on. (my case and CPU temps are fine)

So now I'm pretty much in the dark here about what to do...I'm waiting on a repsonse from HardOCP people in the hope that maybe there is a somewhat simple solution...otherwise I'm probably faced with two possibilities -- a defective PSU or a defective card (despite the fact that both have worked fine since Sept 2004)

OK that's about all...I'm hoping maybe one of you went through something similar and can apply your experience to my current situation.

Thanks.
First Thing To Do.
Try the card in an another PC.
Blitz's Card
Blow a can of air across the card for good measure and make sure it's not overheating before locking. Otherwise ask for a replacement. These things can fail.
Enough
Can we please stop with the dumbass anonymous posts? It's not amusing.
Then, Four Hours Later
I updated my site for anyone who cares, you know where it is. I took the whole "func_msgboard is not too narrow dammit" argument to heart and added a width limit to the text on my site, and it looks better and hasn't made the layout explode at all so far so I guess you (namedly Maj) were right.
Headthump...
...out of curiosity, what does the MHQuake texture resampling do? Is it for non-power-of-two textures?

PS: Lun wins.
