Dunno That Many...
But of course Sock. And we're missing out with Than not mapping, his maps pretty much inspired me to get into Quake mapping.

I miss Kell and his really cool take on the quake mythos.

Mexx, damaul, elek, iikka keranen (if only because he'd do some different stuff, not fucking idbase maps).
Although having said that, to make a good map these days means making a map that would wipe the ass of anything back in 97/98. Maps are much better now than they were back then, so some of those classic maps might be made by guys who wouldn't be able to make a good map by todays standards. They might not have the patience. Neil Manke might have been popular back in the day, but could he create awesome maps by todays standards?

Sock and hopefully we'll invent cloning and make more Socks so we can lock them up and have a Sock mapping farm pumping out Quake maps each week.

It's no use Sprony, when you make a pair of socks you'll just end up losing one of them.

I've never worked on an id1 map, only mods.
Maybe a couple of speedmaps.

sock and I once discussed how people should quit remaking e1m1 and e1m2, because the most inventive quake maps in the most dire need of an update are e4m*.
func e4rmx episode, anyone?
