Other PC Games Thread.
So with the film and music threads still going and being discussed... why don't we get some discussion going on something on topic to the board? What other games are you playing now?

Nitin
Thanks !! I know the game, I see many TV advertising for it, but it's not called like this for the french version.
Older Games, Yeah
Started playing through System Shock 2 again yesterday. The graphics look incredibly outdated, but... damn, what a game.

Whatever happened to titles like that?
System Shock 2
Highly recommended.

Tons of atmosphere and a very good story. This is not a game to rush. Read every PDA and think carefully about how to develop your character. While the pace of the game is slow and it is pretty hard, the depth of design and imagination pulled me through to the very end.

What happened to such titles? As game development evolves, so does the need for revenue to fund the massive costs to produce current games. Marketing and business planners approve design docs that will likely fulfil business objective.s Looking Glass, who went bankrupt, probably just wanted to create a really good game - and they did.
System Shock 2
always heard good stuff about it, never played it. Will try to track a copy down when I get back.
System Shock 2
Didn't id software redo this one with a Hell-ish theme and call it Doom 3 or something?
Headthump
Also, it was kind of odd that your character Ms. Archer would kill the swordlady's minions by the bucket full without any qualms, but hesitate to do her in as well.

Hey, you're the one who chose to kill the minions, not Ms. Archer. ;)

And yeah, I got a strong sense of deja vu from the underwater base, too. The only thing I could figure was that it must have been similar to the space station from NOLF1.
SS2 And Monster Spawning
For those who play System Shock 2, I suggest reading the monster spawn section in the readme.wri file to see if you wish to adjust some of the spawn controlling parameters. SS2 is not hugely generous with ammo and too many random respawns don't help your supply situation. Since I took my time playing through, I set the parameters to minimize respawns although they are not stopped completely.
He He
you called me out on that one. 'It was I, your Honor who slayed the beautiful minions of HARM!'

The Venture Brothers' villians remind me of HARM.

The only thing I could figure was that it must have been similar to the space station from NOLF1.

My other theory on that is that the art director or texture artist for that section may be someone that Quake series players may be familiar with, like an HFX/evillair.
That Reminds Me
I still can't get SS2 running, goddamnit. I thought this Radeon 9800SE was going to do some magic (with DirectX 9.0b, I think) but no. Fooey. SS2 has to be the best damn FPRPG ever. Any ideas?

And ditto on the spawning business. Backtracking from the bridge train was horrible. Always spiders, midwives and an assassin, and me with a goddamn laser gun...
Fatty
The SE is a poorly reviewed and regarded card -- my friend made the mistake of getting one, and he can barely play Doom3. I know money is tight, but you should have like, sold some Bob Dobbs wares on Ebay or something.

Try and ditch the SE if you can, it's really not a good card. Go for a 9600-9800 PRO if you can, or a slightly older Geforce...

playing riddick (odd game, far from d3 environment design wise)
and tried 'fall' (yeah fallout ripoff by germans in full 3d)
Riddick's
level design reminded me often of quake2.

true that

btw everyone be sure to play BGE - prolly best fun I had since q1 become boring
Riddick
I agree. I liked it for that. Some of the mines bits are how I hope Q4 to be. With better controls and gameplay of course.
Knights Of The Old Republic 2 : Sith Lords
OMG, LOL FAP and other 3 letter acronyms!

This game is roxoring me hard... I loved the original and this seems to carry on where the original left off very nicely... Same great attention to detail and good storyline and deep characters... cant fault it yet... About 3-4 hours into it, loving every second!!
Swkotor2
i concur. :)
Riddick
Just finished it.

Damn, that was a good game! Movement/controls were a bit iffy at times, the ragdoll would shit itself occasionally, and there were model seams/cracks from time to time, but those minor gripes were far outweighed by the good stuff.

I played it all weekend, and really enjoyed it. Good story, good gameplay, nice mo-cap and voice talent (and gratuitous one-liners), and very elegent implementation of stuff (e.g. stealth, health, weapons) that is often done poorly. I quite liked the level design too. I don't know that I've played that enjoyable a mix of fps, stealth, and rpg since Deus Ex, and that's damn high praise from me.

I do believe I'll turn right around and play through it again with the commentary.
I'd Like To Try Riddick
But the idea of Vin Diesel in my computer is putting me off.

Guess I'll try the demo, if there's a demo.
No Demo
I want the demo too, I might buy this.
Ss2
is soo fucking great - finally got it to run on my pc ( took 3h of my life ).

the moster spawning in places is really shitty tho - i already encountered 3 or 4 places where monsters would respawn every few secs and always at the same place.. pretty much destroys the atmosphere :/

i want more research + chemical store rooms in games!

btw ss2: rebirth is quite nice, someone redid some of the models for ss2...
Ss2: Rebirth
megaman is it released?
Still Beta1
still beta1
Rebirth
appears to be abandoned... too bad. still, the game is excellent nonetheless.
