The game list might have moved on a long way from the original one, and as with any such list, not all of it worked out, but the principle remains: This is a thread purely for hype and positivity about PC Gaming and forthcoming games that get you particularly excited. If you're playing it already or it's just a general comment, post it in the Other PC Games Thread. If it's big enough for the func_audience (usually Quake / Doom / Unreal / HL series etc), start a specific thread for it.
New list for 2018 onwards:
Updated for reasonz:
Still hype maybe:
Cyberpunk 2077 - blatantly Deus Witcher, but top of the hype list?
Iron Harvest - it's crowdfunded, let's hope it succeeds
Metro Exodus - equal top of the hype list maybe
Doom 5 - also equal top. Thank fuck there's some vaguely entertaining FPS in the works
Tentative hype:
Phoenix Point - still waiting
Witchfire - verrrrrrrrry tentative
Mechwarrior 5 - the world always needs more Mechs!
Released:
Mutant Year Zero - the new XCom clone hype, more so than PP.
Battletech - it came out, it was great, nuff said.
Call OF Cthulu - FP interactive movie puzzle / talking sim
Hypeless:
Anthem - bollox Ass Effect meets Dickstiny meets who gives a fuck.
The next From Software game - turned out to me boring Japan history meh Nioh clone.
Will try to find the video clip links for some of these, seeing a lot of clips recently inspired me to post this...
Anyway.

Of those, the ones I think are going to be the best are HL2 EP2, (mostly because of TF2 and Portal which come with it) and STALKER because I think it has the potential to be really excellent. I think whatever has made them delay it this long says to me that they actually care about it and the fact that THQ continues to pay for it says that they are excited about whatever they're doing.
Alan Wake could be kind of cool if they mix in some adventure game elements or something like that to actually make the story immersive.

the thing with this game is that it's probably not going to be as impressive as it would have... i know they updated the engine to work with dx9 but i just have a bad feeling about it. also, some of the talk about 'emergent behaviour' sounds too outlandish to be true.
don't get me wrong, i would love if this game actually was exactly what they say, i just am preparing myself for the worst. :P
bioshock, on the other hand, i'm not worried about in the least. their track record is proven, and i can't wait to get my hands on this game. ^_^
jade empire is supposed to be being made for PC now, and as someone who never owned a single console, this is nice as i've heard good things about it. it's supposed to be more than a port, which is always a good thing, so we'll see...
and looking forward to hl2 ep2 if only for more nice post-ap maps and the continuation of the story (talk about a cliff hanger in ep1).
Quite Right

some of the talk about 'emergent behaviour' sounds too outlandish to be true.
I was reading this article a moment ago--
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/stalker/news.html?sid=6162089&page=1
and how it describes emergant behavior gave me a funny feeling as well.
I know calling a game scripted is intended as an negative criticism, but I am much happier with well scripted and well paced events in game (like HL2) than I am with games similar to what is described here. Random is not that interesting.
It will likely feel as contrived as Dungeon Hack which randomly generates dungeons but is essentialy the same mind numbingly simple game everytime when you get under the surface of it. But I hope that I am wrong.
Speeds, I thought the bioshock art was quite an eye sore too, and the big daddies and little sisters described in every review have turned into an annoyance even before the game has come out. However, I'm still looking forward to it, like Necros, just because of the people involved in creating it.

Ah yes, good old speedy, I knew I could rely on you for your charmless brand of dismissal and pessimism :).
Needless to see that some of these could be "bleh" indeed, still I would rather wait hopefully and then bleh-ify them if they deserve it. Makes it more fun in the meantime. And disappointment? Not so much really, there's always other games to play.
Anyway, the ones that most excite me: Bioshock, Crysis, and in theory Offset, all for obvious reasons.
Games!

Stalker will rock, if it doesn't I will allow you all to take the piss forever! (im sure you would anyway...) I dunno what it is about this game but it just strikes me as being really special, I hope the extra development time really let GSC Gameworld make it tip-top...
I am also really looking forward to Crysis, the e3 movie of the giant tripod walker thing attacking the aircraft carrier just blew me away, also modifying your armour properties on the fly is cool, as are the tactical bullets and destructable trees, even if it turns out to be far cry 1.5 I would be happy with it...
HL2 EP2 looks great from what I have seen, some really immense battles going on, and more of the hl2 story is always welcome in my book. Also as mentioned above TF2 and Portal come with it, I am really looking forward to both of those as well.
Alan Wake, haven't seen any gameplay whatsoever yet but it certainly looks nice, and coming from the makers of max payne 1 & 2 im sure they can pull of a great game with it.
Huxley / Project offset - Wha? I saw some trailer for one of these and it looked ok but tbh I have not really checked them out in any detail...
Supreme Commander - This looks awesome, I need more total annihilation style goodness!
Assasins Creed!

GoW and ResistanceFallOfMan for PC plz
(just thinking how much worse it is to play a shooter with gamepad)
jade empire yes plz - Biowre rpg and not cliche fantasy
You guys prolly know that most of the original stalker team has left to form another company (and now being sued haha). Also I cant believe how much u guys trust in all the hype and PR buzzwords (emerging behavior... yeah sure)
DAZ there is another good ghame for you - Dead Or Alive Xtreme 2

(regarding your earlier post) You suck.
SC open beta started recently, and I'm downloading it now. I'm very much looking forward to playing it no matter how uninteresting the graphics look in most screenshots. It's about gameplay, and it sure looks like it will be different to all the popular RTS games, which are basically all the same thing with different settings and rules. SC at least does something different. Total Annihilation shat on all other RTS games when it was released, so my hopes are high.
Bioshock looks awesome. You suck.
Crysis looks awesome, though I'm not convinced by the nanosuit idea. You suck.
Alan Wake has a lot of potential. You suck.
ETQW looks pretty cool and Splash Damage are good at making MP team gameplay work well. It won't be BF Quake, because BF has utterly shit gameplay when you aren't in a vehicle - things are likely to be different with QW.
HL2 Ep2 is probably more of the same, but that's not exactly a bad thing when the original was such a great game. The videos Valve released seem to show a bit more new stuff than we saw in HL2 ep1.
STALKER. Hmmm. Well, even if the game is a bit crap, I want to walk around the environment. Even if it sucks I will probably get it just to check out the atmosphere. Does sound like they missed some cool opportunities though - a recent gamespot preview said vehicles have been removed, and there is also no coop multiplayer, so the only other stalkers are going to be NPCs.
You suck :)
Oh, and Shambler... you missed one... DUKE NUKEM FOREVER!
LOL.

planned for 1st Q 2007... on the other news THQ is having some problems.
Seriously, its been so long I stopped to care (like 3 years ago). If it comes out bad - no big deal. If its any good - I will play it...
I believe it will be ok, but nothing amazing (like I seemed to be in 2003)
Not spoogeworthy

I'm looking forward to quite a few of these yeah, mostly hoping Bioshock will be good, and Hellgate London, I'd like to have a futuristic diablo-like game... not sure if that's how it'll turn out though.
About Supreme Commander, I tried the beta, it was pretty boring, didn't really feel like there was anything innovative at all in the end, except that you can zoom in and out like crazy... Hope the single player campaign is more interesting.
Were Portal And Team Fortress 2 Lumped In There With Hl2ep2?

Cos I'm certainly looking forward to them.
Portal
#18 posted by Text_Fish on 2006/11/24 08:29:31
looks like a bit of a one trick pony to me, and a pretty ugly one at that. I'd prefer they somehow managed to work the portal gun in to the HL2 storyline.
I'll probably still buy Ep2 simply for TF2 though.

speeds: I'm 12, you fool! learn to count!
Sorry if you took any of my "you suck comments" as serious insult, I was only messing around. This is TEH INTARNET after all.
I also tried to get the SC beta working recently, but for some reason I seem to be missing a required file and I can't play online. However, if you played TA back in the day, you would probably be able to understand why I am excited about SC. TA was such a big change from C&C and WC (sorry for all the acronyms - I'm lazy) in terms of scale and ambitioun. It had full 3d units, true LOS on terrain, physics on debris and perhaps even enemy shots (don't remember) massive battles, infinite resources, hundreds of units, was very balanced (both sides were nearly the same though) and also had absolutely the fucking best interface ever put in an RTS game. Sure, many RTS games these days allow you to queue orders and set waypoints, but I think it was TA (along with maybe Dark Reign) that introduced these features. TA allowed you to move away from micromanagement a lot more than C&C did, and freed up players to concentrate more on the battlefield.
I just realised that what I've wrote summarises a lot of the selling points of Supreme Commander, but it's amazing that they are still selling points eight years after the original game was released.
Also, despite the apparently marmite-like appeal of Bioshock's art (do you want more fucking elves or what?) I think the game has enormous potential and will live up to at least some of it. If it lives up to even 1/10th of the promise I think it has, it will be a great game. Shame it has had so much hype recently though.
Whilst a Diablo FPS seems infinitely more appealing to me than an actual Diablo game, what I've seen of Hellgate looks pretty boring. The art is ok, but the weapons don't look particularly fun to use in the videos, environments are randomly generated, and I don't really know how much wandering around shooting stuff that isn't part of a pre-designed adventure I can take. Might be fun in coop with friends I guess.
Earthenware? Sandwich Spread?

It appears they are going for a highly self consciense 50's Kitsch.
do you want more fucking elves or what?
I bet you are like me, and every time you see one of those game adverts for the fantasy MMORPGs (it seems like they all do this) that shows a female elf with a menacing glare, dagger in hand and wearing breast plate that ressembles a sports bra exposing plenty of midrift, the first thought that comes to your mind is -- slash! one stroke! She is now two pieces.

Alan Wake - I recall this seeming cool, havent followed it.
Bioshock - In concept it seems cool, enjoyed that cg trailer in terms of atmosphere it is suggesting.
Crysis - Nice to see that team is working on a source port for their own game. Sorry, just not impressed by your engine when it comes to buying a game.
ET:QW - Zombie is cool so this gets a thumbs up anyways, but I do like what Ive seen.
Hellgate London - Looks fun and cool from what Ive seen, variety of guns and splattery enemies. I like that they seem to have taken a step back in tech to allow for better framerates in the gameplay they want.
HL2:EP2 - I guess HL2 itself would have to not be a movie I have to hold W for the duration of to make sure it plays, and thus not get bored for me to play it, then Ep1, and thus Ep2. Blah.
Huxley - No clue
Jericho - I liked Undying alright, so this could be cool. Havent seen any media for it however.
Project Offset - Last time I checked this project was in the same place it was a year since I checked it before that. I hope it does turn out cause... well... medieval is cool.
Savage 2 - No clue.
Stalker - I vaguely recall details of this and being intrigued last time I looked into it, Id give it a go.
Supreme Commander - Nukes treated somewhat properly? Massive armies? Sounds good to me, screenshots look fun. Friends have given it pretty good reviews from the beta.
You Are Empty - Never heard of it, Russian stuff is cool, but no take on it really.
Im gonna go see if I can find a Custom TF game now =)
Let's Hope

Read the latest Stalker preview, did sound very good, and did sound like it was very much in existence. Maybe DKT but not DNF if you get my drift.
Crysis - based on Far Cry, I feel how anyone can diss the engine (very impressive) nor the gameplay (very cool - if you like that style).
Holy Crap Batman.

All I'm really spooging over at the moment is the thought of what Team Ico are going to do with the PS3. Fuck, I'd just be happy with a straight sequel to Shadow of the Colossus.
These guys are the most exciting design team in the industry at the moment.
Oh, wait "PC games". Curse you and your narrow-minded thread topics, Shambler ;)
