Battlefield 2
first impressions? i have really enjoyed the demo, its so sad that ALL OF THE SAME BUGS are in the retail version. Hello random crash to desktop, Hello completely unusable server browser. Hello horribly coded interface that locks up randomly requiring a press of the reset button. I know it's the common thing these days for games have patches to fix alot of launch issues but goddamn, its almost unplayable for a large amount of people. If it was anyone but EA I can't help but think it wouldn't be released in such a state.
Spog, what the fuck is all that anyways?

That sucks. Patches might be a common thing but a lot of them aren't a justifiable thing, especially for something like a server browser or interface.

This game was supposed to be full of bugs. It only came out a couple of months ago and since then I think there have been three major patches.
Ignoring the bugs, from the reviews the game sounds pretty prime. Does anyone have it?
Comments?

I was kind of hoping it would be good but expecting it would suck, but I never bought it as I haven't seen any reviews suggesting it's good, only ones that say it's quite bad or at best average. Where are these good reviews at?

Here is a small sampling, thanks to speedy, of what some fellow/fallen Qboard/Qmap/func people sound like

hey everyone long time...
anyways i wanted to start making some doom3 maps but apparently if you uninstall doom3 its impossible to reinstall it cause the MSI thing for it sucks.
anyone know any workarounds for this? i constantly get "1628: Installation is unable to complete", only pak files get copied over during the install, no .exes, no registry stuff, copying the files directly doesnt work either.

Not really impressed by the graphics. Looks about like Doom 3 without the plastic sheen. To be honest graphics don't impress me anymore.
On the other hand it'll be interesting to see a large scale game not making graphical compromises.

Quake 3 And CPMA Map Reviews

So what site does one go to for getting quality Quake 3 and CPMA maps? I am sure there have been a lot of nice maps released since I last had Q3 installed (over a year and a half) and LVL seems to have gone downhill pretty bad (rarely updated and completely shitlooking maps in the "top" lists).

How would I go about finding out some site that lists (frequently updated) player statistics for online FPS games (including the older ones: read q/q2/q3)? Google isn't being cooperative.
Handy Tip For The Day
#8087 posted by Preach on 2005/06/26 14:50:50
Since nobody's posted a question I can answer for the past 24 hours or so, I thought I'd post this, so at least it's written down somewhere:
If you have to change a console command as part of your map pack/mod or whatever, don't package a copy of autoexec.cfg or config.cfg with your mod. You'll just screw up people's custom configs, and then they'll delete your config, and then the command won't get run. Your mod won't run correctly! Thousands will die!
Instead, the correct way to do it is this. Make a copy of quake.rc - you'll find it in pak0 or your id1 directory. Open it in notepad and you'll see it calls all the config.cfg and the startdemos and that kind of stuff. So, add another config file to the list, like "exec yourmappack.cfg". Try and make it a name that nobody would use normally, so that you won't overwrite anything. Then put yourmappack.cfg and your new quake.rc in your base mod directory. And you're done!
Here endeth the lesson.
