Chris Crawford...
The greatest Preacher on gamedesign. I strive to one day read through everything he's written.

I work in the industry. My only story is "I threw around a frisbee for an hour this afternoon."
Hmmm...
civ2 wasn't good? granted i never played the original, so maybe i don't know how much better it was.
I Heard
Civ2 is quite possibly the single best game ever designed.
Civ2
I was very impressed with civ2.

I'll post this here to avoid filling up Kell's thread with it, I did make a post,(at least I thought I did, didn't seem to show up) regaurding nglquake and it's weapon effects, I am not sure if you can or can't turn them off, as I like them and have never tried to turn them off. They are not over the top or anything, however whether you like like them or not is a personal thing. I had a quick look and can't see anything in the cfg file or readme. There is a newer version available than the one I use, but it changed the weapon effects a bit, and for the worse IMO, there was also something else that I didn't like about the newer version, but that escapes me at the moment.
Civ2
suffered from the same problem as civ1, where you'd attack some naked spearsmen with a battalion of armored laser tanks and they'd lose.
Perhaps They Were Naked Spearsmen With Mirrors
Whatever, all those Sid Meier games - Civ, Civ 2, Colonisation - all of em were great.

The original was my favourite, though.

I, too, thought Civ was the bestest, though I only played Civ and Alpha Centauri. AC was great, but it didn't hook me like Civ did. I eagerly await the 4th (?) though, I might get it. Looks good, so we'll see.
Civ2
the game just wasn't interesting later on...
it didn't keep the focus, everything just
wallowed in mediocre diplomacy.
civ1 was brutal and abstracted to-the-point.
Galvanized Beta
Hi all!
I've just uploaded a beta version of my upcoming q3 map on lvl, check it out please! (http://lvlworld.com/beta.php) I know that there are lots of great mappers here (maybe the bests on the world ;-), please, tell me your opinions, since it is just a beta, any kind of changes (gameplay/design) are available! I hope that You will like my very first q3 map!

To Quote Someone From SA....
I'm going to start a game company in response and call it Playbia.

I liked that.

I really liked playing your map, it was much fun, the layout provided some excelent DM'ing moments, the top section seemed a little bare, maybe more detail is needed in general. But I really like it, look forward to the finnished <-thats for you Phait ;) product
So
Is Phait Finnish?
Nope
Not Finnish, just gave Vorelord some shit because he spelled "finished" as "finnished" and I was a bit amused.

now we share in the ensuing hilarity
Praise For Spog
I was just reading Somethingawful ( http://somethingawful.com ), and on the front page update today, they have a complimentary blurb about Spog.

It was funny to see someone from our small world of Quake mappery on the front page of SA so randomly, but cheers to Spog.
LOL!
Cheers for linking that Blitz. And hurrah for SpoG!1

I Just Thought This Looked Very Cool
Wow
that IS really cool.

If "high-res" quake asset replacements all looked this good, I might stop complaining about them.
