Well, I always called them 'casuals' or 'schemies', neither of which is anywhere near as insulting as the things they call me. And it isn't a matter of social class, it's a matter of social conduct.

A Question For Quake Players....
#6406 posted by Jago on 2004/12/14 12:01:33
As my current Q1SP project (some of you might have played apinaraivo.bsp in it's various states or seen the screenshots here) is progressing towards completion, I've been thinking about expanding it into a bigger project, consisting of a startmap, 3 singleplayer maps and perhaps and endmap. So now the question I have for you is: Would you rather see something good (a finished apinaraivo.bsp) in a 1-2 month timeframe or would you rather see something even better, which would however take AT LEAST another 6 months to develop?

Both. Just work on the map, release when it's done, and work on the rest, release entirety when it's done.
10:1 Says

You'll end up being sick of the whole thing and never finish it if you decide it's going to be hueg!
10:1?

50:1, more like.
Jago: The map itself looks good so far, but it doesn't look very big at all imo. I would say you should finish the map itself, then release a pack, maybe with monkey rage in it, related to the released map. But that's my opinion. There's a shortage of maps around so far, so a quality map would be nice.

Yes, I know how a long-coming map release feels very well. You are all full of pheromones for all 15 minutes until someone actually downloads your map and points out some bloody obvious texture misalignment, bad shadow, missing item, etc, etc ;) The unfortunate truth is that you can continue to perfect a map for an unlimited amount of time, but yet it will never be perfect.

... release this level, then if you're still gung-ho on the theme, scheme & scenario then by all means make the larger pack incorporating a remix of this level. Worked for Kell (without the remix, of course).
Good luck BTW.

A famous filmaker once said: "movies are never completed, they are abandoned"
When I knew I was nearing the end of Contract Revoked ( over a year after starting the episode ) a small part of me knew I could have gone on building it for the rest of my life.
But don't mistake wanting to continue because you feel there is more to do, with wanting to continue to put off showing it to others.
If you're happy with your map: stop building it.
I agree with distrans; release the single map and everyone benefits. If you still feel the episode urge...once more unto the breach dear friend.

How very true. I personally feel that I "abandoned" Bastion to work on the other maps in the series, with the idea of releasing them as a complete episode, including a "Special Edition" version of the original map that more accurately represented my original vision.
That said, next Summer's First Anniversary "Bastion Redux: Shuffler Shoots First" Edition, (working title) will probably be the next time I revisit this seminal garrison of evil. It will have to wait as I'm currently knee deep in giant spiders on the slopes of the Marcher Vale - let's just say you might wake up to find a nice little stocking filler this Christmas ^_~ (or most likely, in the new year).

STM, an instant message / email system I've been working on is in a BETA 1 stage. This means it is 'known bug free' and running on a fast server (the Alpha was on my home network and a lot slower). There is also a heap of documentation, a few screenshots and an FAQ :]
Anyone that had an STM Alpha login still has that login, however the old messages will look all messed up (I've changed some of the encryption stuff)
You can login / sign-up now at https://stm.lvlworld.com (its free and complete anonymous)
