Sorry, I forgot that shitty .avi rips being viewed on a monitor screen are the ideal medium in which to watch one's favourite films.

AVI is not a codec, it's a file format containing data. The data within can be encoded with a bad codec at a bad bitrate and a good codec at a good bitrate. I'd say that a 3 CD DVDrip encoded with XViD with AC3 5 channel audio is pretty appropriate for a LoTR movie.
I have to live with watching movies on a monitor as I don't have a good TV, but may I remind you that you can hook your computer to a projector and watch the movies off your ROOM WALL. Me and my friends had access to one such projector when we were in high school and let me tell you, it beats watching movies from a monitor, tv AND movie theater screen.

a dvd on a good tv/projector will kick the shit out of any rip job, a 3 cd rip is a lot of quality loss. It might not be noticable on small screens but it is very obvious and distracting on big ones.
And the only way to see movies like LOTR is on a good screen with a good sound system.
Yeah, Well

A diminutive stream is a 'runnel'
and a small class of fish is a 'gunnel'
I'm feeling adroit
at making my point
so you try and rhyme shit with 'tunnel.'

Yeah, but it's the whole "compressing ROTK:EE onto 3 CDs is an appropriate way to experience the film" bit that kind of nullifies his argument for me ;)

Vigil: In a movie theater you dont have the ability to pause, rewind/fastforward and take a piss whenever you want. Also when watching with a projector in the comfort of your home, you don't have 5-year old kids yelling behind your back and throwing popcorn and people talking on their cellphones. So yes, I'd say a good projector beats a movie theater any time.
Kinn: You know, my friends say I'm weird when I refuse to rent movies on VHS or watch low bitrate dvdrips. But to say that THE ONLY ways to watch a good movie is in a movie theater or from a DVD is plain absurd. I guess you just never seen a good high bitrate rip shown on a good projector (or a large monitor for that matter) with a 5.1 channel AC3 audio being played through a decent speaker system.

Ehh, there is no rhyme, harhar!
I want to feature pure .bsp releases if possible. So no maps with new models and stuff, but "Twisted Christmas" is worth a laughter. Maybe at Christmas;)

HL Vs HL: Source

Just found this interesting screemshot comparison comparing the original HL to the new HL remake (not HL2) on the Source engine: http://www.alyx.de/exclusive/hl-hls/index.xml

Heh, except the water, HL looks better on it's original engine. Source seemed to add a bit of brightness that really dulls down the scene. Plus those new skyboxes look totally halfassed.
Should Note:

haven't seen it in action, just going by those shots, which could have differant gamma/brightness settings between the engines/screenshot taking.
Hmm

The water concept is better in Source... I'm glad to see water that isn't predominantly BLUE this time. I haven't kept up with news on Source - is this going to be a free update to HL1, or are they reselling it, or would it be a free standalone? (doubtful)

HL: Source comes with HL2: Collector's Edition
HL: Source
is also part of the silver and gold packages if you purchase HL2 via STEAM.
