You can build it from scratch using the demo version as a basis.

I downloaded my copy off of Kazaa. No viruses or anything...
well it's not like you're going to use the executables that came with the game anyway. You're either going to download winquake or glquake, or one of the custom engines.
 Yeah,

what is missing from the demo version?
Vore model, spawn
and Hell Knight, right?
Any differences in the Progs.dat?

I meant what is necessary to the extent that it would take to set up a functioning version for a player that doesn't have Quake.
I did discover something alarming though. Over the years I have taken Quake apart and set out the models and maps and everything else into folders to be read from that I no longer even have pak1.pak on my harddrive. No wonder I have to import the music now from engines that read obb vorbis and mp3 files.

It's the original levels that are copyrighted now. I bought mine directly from id in 1996. Memorial day weekend made me wait till the following tuesday to get it. Man was I itchy to play it too. I still have the original cardboard CD holder and all.
I wonder what it will get on e-bay in 20 years...

While I admit to having warezed the vast majority of the games I've played, some games simply MUST be owned legally and Quake is one of them. I had originally purchased a pirate Quake CD in Russia for like 1$, but in 2001 I purchased an official boxed set from Activision containing Quake and both Mission Packs. The artwork on the box is absolutely kickass.

Necros, probly cause your isp doesn't own enough ips for all the people on their network, they don't expect everyone to be online at once anyway, so they have it set to reset your ip more often so ppl. who aren't online don't waste an ip.
It's one of those annoying policies/business models that hasn't been changed since 56k was hi-tech.

or similar, that would bring peace and harmony to the world.

screw the berfilterbackgrounds and go for artists like http://www.goodbrush.com (craig mullins), http://www.cafesale.net/bengal/index.php3 (bengal) and http://www.sparth.com/ (sparth=nunuk)or some other cool digitalartists.

Artist brush work is annoying in its mannerism. Too much thick clumping as an 'arty' effect. It could be cleaner. Much cleaner.
Good sense of form, but another common mannerism is to allow light, color and shadow to obscure form in unrealistic ways and that I see it here in spades.

Now that is pretty decent work. Clean lines. Good lighting and atmosphere. One niggle, but almost all modern artist do it. Some pics (ie. http://www.sparth.com/gallery/displayimage.php?album=17&pos=11) have big splatches of shadow in the forground. I would rather see the shadow softened or placed at a more stark angle so the ships form is not obscured.
But I like.
