I was visiting some of my family who are from New Orleans a year ago, and the McDonald's that I visited served red beans and rice.
Big Yuck-o, I hate beans.

pure shit... my memory of what appeared to be a brand shiny new Mcdonalds in france during lunchtime was as vacant as the space between Cardo's asscheeks. Imagine that, a country who's past is enriched with the whole idea of 'gourmet' and McDonalds nobody eats at! I was shocked even at the tender age of 11. Burger King in Paris was busier. But we went to this other 'chain' restaurant that had all you can eat pastas and It was friggin' aweseome. I forget the name. Bal what all you can eat buffer "italian" style chains are there? started with an 'F' i think.... I have to think on this one...

.. and "gourmet idea" are for sure incompatible !!! It's my "frenchy" humble opinion... If you want good food in France, don't stop into McDonald, or Quick, or other fast food.. even Burger King are not good... You'd rather try "real" restaurants: it will be much more expensive, but here you find the french "gourmet idea" you were looking for...

I was just mentioning McDicks as it was the current theme. Of course I ate wonderfully good during my visit to France. Altho lunch usually consisted of a baguette and cheese and maybe some pate if it was market sunday in our locale.

I agree, McDonald is for sure the worst, but not the only one (unlucky we are), food chain right here... If you are looking for good food, and I mean real french gastronomy (and I easily guess it's all the same for others countries), you must avoid eating in fastfood like McDo or others.. !!

No idea what that Italian food chain could be pope...
When I have to eat fast food in France (cause of lack of time to eat properly at noon), I usually eat at Quick, but thats just cause its the lesser evil (=it isn't american).
Then again I don't like proper french food so much, too much meat... Much prefer eating asian stuff...

Have visited MacDonalds all over the Northern Hemisphere and although there are differences in menus - for instance, did you know that you cannot get a single cheesegurger in Rodos, you have to have a double - they do all tatse the same.
But not quite so with KFC. There is one a stones throw from the sphinx in Cairo where I swear that KFC must stand for Kentucky Fried Camel!

The guy eats his equivelant in ass loadage three times a day at McDonald's and gains weight, big suprise there. Generally speaking, I hate consumer activist. If you are not looking after your own interest (caveat emptor), the species is better off without you.

"yeah, I can put a stick of butter and a jar of heavy cream to make every thing taste better too."
That really is the trick too -- 9/10 times. My uncle has been a chef his whole life in many different locales, and he said when you go out to eat, alot of the time what makes the food so good, is everything is smothered in butter. There are alot of other very very very unhealthy tricks that make dining out so desirable.
For example, KFC uses more sugar to make those servings of coleslaw than you will find in a Hershey bar. And when you get ribs that are juicy and moist from a steakhouse or similar restaraunt, chances are those ribs have been soaking in a layer of bacon fat and butter overnight.
