It's like Blitz's secret message, but slightly different.

ok, just to shit me about, God, in his infinite wisdom, decided to send a bolt of lightning up the phoneline and into my computer during a thunderstorm, frying my modem and god-knows-what-else in the the process. All this, exactly one week before I'm due to get hooked up with a broadband connection. Life is funny like that.
Anyway, this is just to say any emails to me can be directed to: bdwooding (at) hotmail (dot) com - i probably won't get a chance to check them that frequently on this POS computer that i'm currently using to write this, but just to let you know.
Regarding my maps etc., well all that stuff gets backed up daily, so I didn't lose any of that thank god.
The really shitty part is that I was using a surge protector, but the phone connector on the unit broke only a few days ago, so I had to plug my phone line directly into the wall socket - thus when the electrical surge travelled up the phoneline, it was able to fux0r my computer unhindered. >:|

Shad3dm2 - Deep Freeze
hey guys,
Its been forever since I regularly visited this site, but started working on a Q3 map recently. Its actually a port of one of my old Q2 maps "Deep Freeze". Thought I would share a few pics of its progress. Still needs work on lighting as its a bit dark in places.

Been there, done that. Hopefully your PC isn't as bad off as mine was. Best wishes with getting your computer situation back to normal.

<Kell> what's the secret message then?
<RPG> Starbuck was looking for secret messages in my reviews, so I included one in that review. If you take the first word from each paragraph, you get "There Is None"

It's god's way of trying to stop you making evil satanic maps. Don't let it stop you, even if it's at the cost of your immortal soul

Weird coincidences have been occuring lately...
You know that horde test map I was just showing in the bees III thread - well, in its first incarnation, I compiled it, then checked out the qbsp log for some reason, and lo and behold, the "entdata" was "666". I shit you not. o_O
I then altered it a bit, and the entdata became a non-evil number again, and I thought no more of it.
Meanwhile, a storm began brewing, and not long after...well you know the rest.
o_O

The SDK will include one map with a buggy vehicle. Fred Nilsson mentioned that a monster can get stuck under the vehile's wheels.
hmmm........ I wonder if that's a, "buggy vehicle" or a BUGGY vehicle :)
Other stuff
There are bbout 780,000 lines of code in Doom3. 200,000-300,000 lines will be released.
Doom3 patches will be available for download as a stand alone file and through the game's auto update system.
The SDK will include one map with a buggy vehicle. Fred Nilsson mentioned that a monster can get stuck under the vehile's wheels.
The first Doom3 patch is reasonably close to being done. It will not fix any connectivity issues but rather Multiplayer exploits.
Games are being made using the Doom3 engine that support twenty-four players.

"And a demo of the game for skeptical gamers who demand hands-on time before spending $55 is "imminent". At the latest, said Hollenshead, it should be released next week, with two or three hours worth of gameplay."

When I used to use old compilers that came with Worldcraft 1.6, plus the Ken Alverson qbsp with trans water and hipnotic ents, I saw the number 666 scroll slowly up WC's compile window so often I've become convinced someone at some time added a 'feature' to occassionally spout Satan's very own ZIP code arbitrarily into any given compile output.
I really did see it a lot, though now I use aguiRe's tools my map output has been cleansed.
The Devil is a gentleman, they say, though I can't say I've met the bloke. It's coders that I worry about...

That's quite freaky.
On another (not very similar) note, I once had a spooky experience years ago. I was playing Quake on an old Pentium 75 laptop - I had just cleared The Dismal Oubliette with 100% kills, and I was in the final room where you grab the rune after killing the vores. I was just about to exit the level when I heard a Vore's attack sound. I whipped round with a "WTF?" reflex reaction, ready to nail this bastard that I had somehow missed, but there was no-one there. I pulled the console down - 100% kills, like I thought. Puzzling. Again I heard the Vore - its idle sound this time. I moved back into the chamber with the lowering floor, as that was where the sound seemed to come from. I waited for a bit...and waited...nothing. My imagination perhaps? Then suddenly, the phantom Vore once again taunted me with it's shrill battle cry, causing me to nearly fall backwards off my chair. I gathered myself, calmly exited the game, put the kettle on, and watched some telly.
Hm...

maybe in my next map, i'll have monster sight sounds play randomly. :P
