Various Things . . .

Did a lot of Quake 3 stuff (http://www.planetquake.com/pjw), and I may have one more Q3 map in me before I move on completely. Probably more Doom 3/Quake 4 stuff in the future. I'm working at Raven now, so that's pretty sweet--in fact, I'm so happy it's kinda scary. Like an elephant is going to crap on me, or one of my testicles is going to explode to even out the scales, you know?
Oh, I also made some Trackmania maps. It's a truly awesome racing/puzzle/construction game and I recommend it to everyone.

I'm not getting worked up over Unreal engine shots again. They had some pics out before Unreal 2 as well, which looked awesome at the time (12 - 15 months before release).
However, when the game finally came out, I couldn't see nothing of the sort. Actually, the game (U2) was a lot of crap, to be honest.

I agree with Teff Johs and remember being FOOLED by those U2 screenshots cooked up for their minions at Computer Gaming World.
That said, I hope this is indicative of what they are planning for the next single player experience. It looks more consistent with the aesthetic of UnReal than UnReal2.
Speaking of aesthetics. The temple facade in the second pic is glaringly off center.
Mmmmm...

^^^ How can I resist??
And personally, the graphics weren't the problem at all in U2. In fact they were generally very good, the odd obvious glitch aside. But I never saw the early promo shots so can't compare.
DooM3 Level Editing Video's

Quake 4
#5040 posted by VoreLord on 2004/08/09 03:02:11
First, let me say that I purposely don't follow upcoming games such as DooM3(no longer upcoming I know) and Quake 4
Having said that, I was under the impression that Quake 4 was still a long ways off. However on PlanetQuake today Pappy-R, whilst talking about DooM3 and the editor made this comment -
plus messing with it now will get me ready for the impending release of the similarly powered Quake 4
So am I just reading to much into this, and my original assumption correct, that Quake 4 is still a long way off ?

There's three Doom3-oriented discussion threads at the moment - being a yur'peen I haven't played it yet ('cause it ain't out over here until the 13th) but I intend to check it out when I can afford the hardware.

For me , DooM3 is without a doubt the best gaming experience I have ever had. It was totally awesome, and the atmosfear (spelling intended)was IMO without equal. If you can, I suggest you get it, send the wife and kid away, take a week off, lock the doors, have the sound up loud enough that you can't hear anything from the outside world, try to keep any light out of your playing area, then press play

Thanks for the info and your comments guys... Sure I will try to get DooM3 as quick as possible to try it... As I posted it past 4 weeks, I've seen a video of the demo (with the real game, a real PC, a real player...) and yes, I agree with you VoreLord, the atmosfear have no equal today !!
Sure children will make nightmares with this hell game.... he he he ... cool....

The Actual Tech In Unreal2
#5048 posted by HeadThump on 2004/08/09 10:45:43
Was pretty good for its particular generation. My complaint, and maybe I should have clarified, was the use of high definition CGI 'concept' art in that article and obviously passing it off as representing a typical screenshot.
Well Then, So It's Clear...

Unreal engine 3 shots in no way show Unreal3. they're only showing off the engine, atm they haven't even begun to work on an Unreal 3 game... the first game to use the technology won't even be Unreal3

Nope. Are you sending to tyrann at planetquake dot com? I'll bet it's a problem with their mail server - I can't seem to send myself anything through that address either. Hang on a bit and I'll send you a mail from my home address you can reply to.
New PlanetQuake LotW Review
#5053 posted by R.P.G. on 2004/08/10 12:08:00
PlanetQuake has a new Q1SP LotW review this week. This time it's NotoriousRay's Hexameron: Phase One. Definitely a map you should check out, if you haven't already.
http://www.planetquake.com/quake1/features/lotw/sp-04-08-10.shtml
In other news, this might be my last review. I haven't particularly enjoyed it, and trying to coordinate reviews has turned into a nightmare. There are so many good Q1SP maps that deserve to get the LotW award, but I don't have the energy, and in a short while I may not have the time. I'll try to do reviews when I can, but if someone wants to do a guest review, just pick a map, write a review, and send it to me.
P.S. I included a secret message in this review just for Starbuck.

I think it's about time I retrospectively copyrighted that phrase and claimed royalties off all you lot. At a few quid a throw, well I'll be eating top notch curries for the next year I reckon.
