Cliched And Overdone??

Blitz your a total fucking tard. Was the lobotomy a partial or total success??
1. They are not cliched and overdone.
2. See one.
I haven't seen any threads here before on:
Where you'd like to live, gameplay length, effects of graphics in gameplay, or collecting all the beef in one place. The boss thread has been done before but as the current discussion shows, people are still interested in.
If you can prove otherwise by linking some qmap threads, go ahead. Otherwise, consider yourself proved utterly and thoroughly WRONG.
Scampie, please close this thread and let the fuckwit take it to the BEEF.

'yo picked orange for your name like i did... far out'
Branding goes against my hardcore ethos. Only plain default for me.
I'll try to make this my last post in this thread, it does deserve to die and drift back into the netherworld and it highly is unfair to the Shambler to post a purely derogatory post with his name.

Shambler I have nothing against you at all. In fact I love you in a non homo way. This thread is a gentle natured ribbing at you for posting like 6 threads in a row =) (I think scampie too k it a bit too seriously)
BUT it's also built from my frustration of the things we could be talking about instead, but always get shot down because someone spams it or something because it's too elaborate. People enjoy posting about 'Where would you live.' It's something fun and just kind of something to browse through fancifully.
We, as a "community," should be talking about things like the direction level editing is taking, (e.g. games like Far Cry don't let you use brushes in the editor, but rather you just sort of place prefabs) and whether or not the people who are making maps brush by brush are becoming as obsolete as the rotary phone.
Personally I think it's a crucial time for level editing and what it entails, but we never have that kind of depth in a discussion here.
Another issue that concerns me lately is diversity of gameplay on the PC in general. I don't think gameplay has changed at all in the past 20 years. With the amount of people we have working on games and the budgets we have, you'd think somebody, somewhere could successfully develop some kind of innovative mode of gameplay, and I'm not talking about innovative liek Deus Ex innovative where you just have hybrid genres.
People don't want to talk about these kinds of things though because they don't see how it has to do with Zdoom or doing a trick jump on aero.
The problem with threads like 'Where would you live in an FPS' or 'Playing Games Through' is that it just stagnates in the shooter genre. Don't get me wrong there's nothing wrong with talking about shooters, but that topic has been done to death.
If we can get people thinking about FPS and gameplay and design on a higher level, who knows what will be possible in years to come?
A few people on this board are already professionals, and while I'm aware that an entry level gaming industry job doesn't allow them to have the most say in a project, my hope is that people like that, and people who could potentially be in a position like that, would see a thread that was really well thought out and developed and be moved to say "Hey, we're starting to fall into a rut in the FPS/Action genre, let's do something to really shake things up."
I know alot of people will say "oh it's just a board for modding/mapping games that are already established, we don't care about futhering gameplay or considering what 'real' level design consists of" and that's ok, I understand your position and why you enjoy threads like 'Where would you live in an FPS.'
It's just that sometimes I'm fed up with games and the industry, and I think some of the problem comes from intelligent gamers who have an ostrich mentality when it comes to existing games ( Let me bury my head in <insert FPS> making levels, developing add-ons and arguing which game character would defeat which character in a no holds barred K1 Deathmatch.)
In conclusion to this rambling post, I want to apologize for not communicating what I had to say in a more eloquent manner originally. I still think Shambler should slow down before he develops arthritis from click 'Submit thread', and I still think scampie is a DF.
Amen.

so now your complaint is you had multiple better ideas for threads (which 2 days ago you claimed not to have when we chatted, besides the point, really), and rather than post them and show him up, you just made a thread telling us you didn't enjoy Shambler's?
No.
#33 posted by Blitz on 2004/04/23 23:48:50
I'm not in it to show Shambler up, or anyone else.
I was giving examples of things that I would like to see talked about by individuals other than myself, because if you look at my post carefully, I'm opposed to starting such threads because a) many people will not give the threads the consideration I would like them to simply because I posted them.
B) I never claimed to have "better" ideas, I was just illistrating some of the things I think we could talk about instead of the norm.
OK?

WELL WHY DON'T YOU BLOODY WELL START SOME THREADS ON THOSE TOPICS THEN??
For God's sake man it IS that simple. Click on "New Discussion Thread", think of a title, and stick something like "whether or not the people who are making maps brush by brush are becoming as obsolete as the rotary phone" in the main text. Done.
Why Not?

People don't want to hear what I have to say. You think if I started a thread like that, 2 minutes later you, RPG, scampie, etc. wouldn't post "yeah whatever blitz stfuxxxx drunk asshole homophobe racist Amerikkkan dickhead"
Please. I'm tired of sifting through fluff threads for something interesting, but I'm really fucking tired of pretending like anything I say matters and that I could ever post something interesting without taking flak from the dickheads that be.
The truth is you're all happy with your fucking "Which FPS Gun is the 1337es7?!" threads.
Hmm

Lack Of Proper Discussion?

I never said you were racist.
...
But seriously, I try to keep any abuse that I spout to #terrafusion. If you want to discuss something, go to Func and I'll discuss it.
Now, I do think there are many people around here who, for whatever reason, cannot or will not discuss deeper threads. Is it because of laziness, ignorance, or apathy? I don't know. Gilt usually makes discussion threads that have a lot of potential, but those are also the threads that get the fewest posts. I myself am guilty of not posting in them.
Recently, Gilt asked people to list games they played which they thought were original ( http://www.celephais.net/board/view_thread.php?id=15260&start=23 ). Nobody ever gave a response listing original games -- that includes you, Blitz. I'm not saying a lack of proper discussion is in anyway your fault, because it lays on all of us; however, the first one to start making those threads and posting genuine discussion material in them will get +12 cookie points.
Well

rpg;
fuck your mother, I totally broke character and wrote several paragraphs in gilt's thread, because the topic got me going and it was totally worth spending five minutes talking about it. did you even read the damn thread? it was one of the more productive ones in recent func history. so again with the fornication of your closest maternal ancestor.
blitz;
this is why I ask you to endorse my candidature. Free speech is a bitch. You implement it, fully expecting deep and thoughtful debate, individuals engaging in an exchange of ideas to broaden the mind and bring us forward together. What do we get? Baywatch and FOX news, monster trucks and the XFL. See my point?
I'm all for bitching and moaning, don't get mne wrong, but I always expect to be called on it. And it's not my fault most of the tools around here seldomly does.
Agreed

Wrath: your posts (among others) were worthwhile, but most were not related to what Gilt asked. Moreover, if you look at the time span between when Gilt asked the question and when he got a response it was three days later. If you and everyone else had so much to say, why didn't you say it sooner? It wasn't until I revived the thread that metlslime came along with a response, which prompted you to post.
Also, I don't recall citing you as being a waste of space. I said there are "many people... here" who don't contribute. And when I mentioned "a lack of proper discussion" I was obviously not refering to that thread.
So, since you're so upset that I didn't actually insult you, how about this: fuck you, and fuck the homo you rode in on.
Rpg.
#44 posted by wrath on 2004/04/24 18:02:25
First off,
fuck you, and fuck the homo you rode in on.
I, as well as I'm sure are Shambler, are insulted by this, and while you think about that I'll be over here shitting in your shoes.
Second,
If you and everyone else had so much to say, why didn't you say it sooner?
I don't always sit around hammering f5 on this train-wreck of a message board just so I can be the first one to piss in all y'all's upturned gullets. And that is because frankly, It's not all that bad to wait with jumping into a thread until you're sure you can not only read it, understand it and, if need be, post a reply.
The short answer being, I have a life, jackass.
There's
