Quake3 Open Source By End Of Year
Might be old news, and I'm sure scampie doesn't give a toss, but hey. http://games.slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=116699&cid=9876519
Hmm
Unlikely to be old news, given it was only posted today
Hmm
And; "Amidst all the various Doom ports and expansions"

Predictable, but nice to know anyway (yes I'm aware that that sentences was highlighted on shack too)

not old news, but I'm sure we all saw it coming
Jago
Make sure the GF1 is actually dead, fans are cheap, I used to have the fan die on a P120 all the time and it never killed it for good.

Guess it'll work on GF2, but Win98 isn't changing anytime soon... I don't want only a PC with XP ever, maybe NT? I know machines I've used with NT were fast, fast, fast ... I'm talking P2 450/NT > 2GHz/Win98 fast.
Scampie:
Right, but we didn't know WHEN it was coming. This is cool to know.

What about Win2K?
New Quake III CTF By Quaker-X
He usually makes pretty good stuff. This on is called "Spill The Blood", apparently a Quake CTF remake.

Looks Good To Me...
Crisp, well detailed, strong lighting...

Bit heavy on the red and blue colour scheme though :P

P.S. Func_Msgb0rked
Hmmmm
Sin - has made a DooM3 remake of E1M1, well, it's probably not that good, or interesting, nor by the looks of it, is it making use of DooM3's capabilities. Looks just like a straight forward copy. But I'm gonna check it out later, just for a look see.

P.S Func_Msgb0rked lol, I just have this anoying habit of hiting the 1 key instead of the i key, most times I catch myself, but....................................
E1m1 Remake
It'd be better to see someone remake that map (or hell all the DooM epi's) suited with D3's tech, instead of similiar/exact geometrical copies.
Yes Indeedy
Or better still, some kick ass custom stuff, but hey, it's early in the piece, peeps just having a fiddle, I am sure time will bring many wonderous things.

Mods
There are already a couple of small mods out, on the front page of PlanetDoom, one just adds the flashlight to your pistol, another allows you to have one of the little sentury bots follow you at all times, forget what the other one is, just small stuff, but it's still early days.

Haven't tried them myself
Would Someone Please
unban me from #tf. I don't even remember why i'm banned.
Not ONE Roll Of Duct Tape?

Well, there's a useful mod-ette idea right there. Hey, it was good enough for Sigourney Weaver...
E1M1
Some comments from that msgboard...

great, looks nice,

looks good !

Wow, looks nice.

looks really good

NO. It looks fucking foul. I can't see one redeeming feature in there. It looks uglier than maps made for engines that are 1, 2, even 3 generations older.

Well done the QMap lads for actually giving some proper criticism. God it amazes me how stupid some people can be to praise something that looks so shite.

This is why we can't dilute this community too much...
Anyone Know Where Aardappel Is?
i got this email from,

jonATalcopopDOTorg

email him or post here if you know...

hello,

I'm emailing you in an attempt to track down Aardappel.

fov120.com/cubeengine.com appear to have dissapeared; I can't get through to
webmaster for those addresses now and Aard has dropped off of IRC for a long,
long time.

I was wondering if you knew any of Aard's cube or quake-related haunts - I
only knew him thru doom so maybe he's still around somewhere...

E1M1........lol
And even after nonentity's and Biffs "appraisal" of the map, you get this,

Great job MNeMiC., not bad for a first map.

Then we get a review of nonentity's "review"

As for the degrading comments........Saying it looks like shit is just degrading..........I wouldn't be surprised MNeMiC never open's the editor again............I'm locking this thread as nothing good will come of it but a lesson in D3W etiquitte

God help them if they ever came here. But the line of the day must go to Biff,

I mean, I know the engine is capable of working miracles, but not in this case.

:)
Hmm
And the depressing thing is I even said the guy shouldn't quit mapping, just work out what a good map is :/
Hmm
Oh, and even better; the entire map is enclosed in a box because "fixing leaks is too hard to do"

/me headbutts the wall
LOL
I mean, I know the engine is capable of working miracles, but not in this case.

L
O
Why Oh Why
do people always want to remake doom 1/2 levels in 3d engines?

It always ends in tears!

I know! I'm going to remake PacMan Maze #3624 in the Unreal 3.0 Engine!!1
I...
Actually quite like remakes, when they are done really well. I do like the idea of it, because if you have a standard map template, you can see just how much the engine and gameplay have changed (improved in the former case).
Kinn
I'm sure doom3 will result in gazillions of doom 1/2 remakes simply because of the name.
Oh Man, Thanks For The Link,
I thought it was an unspoken rule on this forum that we treat each other with respect and we are here to learn from one another. I wouldn't be surprised MNeMiC never open's the editor again.

This guy should thank you nonentity for giving him the opportunity to be such a self righteous, sanctimonious bitch. Power tripping goody two shoes, and

Our goal here is not to discourage but rather to incourage the masses.

hippie!

The masses? Delusions of grandeur.
