Laptops

I have been looking at laptops as I am away from home for three months from next month and need something to keep me going.
Does any one use one with Centrino 1.5G, ATI Mobility Radeon M10 and 64M DDR Video RAM with DirectX9 support. If so, is it any good for gaming - Quake (obviously), Painkiller, Far Cry etc? It has a 15" screen and 6 hour (we'll see!) battery.
I know it is more than adequate for everything else i.e. map editing, DVD playing, MP3 playing, Word, Excel etc.
Any views, especially regarding Quake1SP?
Thanks.

I assume by M10 you mean the Radeon 9600 Mobility. The regular old Radeon 9600 is going to outperform the mobile one because it has twice the onboard memory. That rig is plenty for Quake gaming, but it's barely going to cut the mustard for Painkiller, FC etc...

I don't know what the state of mobile gaming is, maybe that's as good as you can do on a reasonable budget.

Is there a way to post a betatest PAK-file.
I've got all 24maps packed, but ain't sure the hard level has enough ammunition. I played myself impulse 256.
Looks good to me, but would shame meself to Squad if it had to patchwork after sending.
And my homepage only lends 20Mb, while the file goes 50Mb.

I have some motion capture data in two formats: 3-D Studio Max's Character Studio (.cms) and Maya (.ma). Does anyone know of any cheap (hopefully free) ways to visualize these, and preferably edit them? Oh yeah, and it has to run on Linux.

Hey -- I just realized info I thought was being submitted for a news column was winding up on your message boards by mistake. It was never my intention to clutter your forums; thanks for your patience. Is there a more appropriate way to turn in industry-related news items? Thanks again!

Thanks for being so considerate and asking. You did use the correct news submission form, but none of them passed the moderator approval process, so they ended up in our "general abuse" thread, which is sort of a catch-all for failed news submissions as well as the primary thread for random in-group nonsense. The reason they didn't get approved is that this messageboard really isn't the right kind of forum for your press releases, so you should stop posting them. We are not a game industry news site.

...Is a 170mb download which adds new content to the halo pc edition and includes tools for user created content (ie. maps). You need to have bought halo to install the custom edition pack.

I'm almost finished your forest texture. I'm just branching out atm. It didn't sap as much of my time as I thought it would. Definately not my usual style, but for you I was willing to go out on a limb.
Ok, now I'm going to shut up and leave :/

the new Radeons, but the info came out on them yesterday. It seems as though Nvidia got snubbed again as in most benchmarks ATi wins out. Not by alot, but it does. It also wins with lower power specs, less heat, and a single slot design. It will be interesting to see how Nvidia tries to recoup on this one. Even their newly speced 6800 Ultra Extreme can't match the X800XT. For information on the board check out...

was waiting for some benchmarks of these new cards...
Unfortunately they both look good, performing better than each other at different things... But I think ATI's high end cards looks to be faster by a small margin... So I geuss its the prices that will determin what I buy :)
