Talk about anything in here. If you've got something newsworthy, please submit it as news. If it seems borderline, submit it anyway and a mod will either approve it or move the post back to this thread.

For those who are interested
1on1 Map Pack
http://www.1on1pack.com/
Some nice maps(visual and play wise) in this pack, Including an awsome rebuild for UT2004 of Alpu2. All in all well worth the D/L
DM-Aristocracy2004
http://nalicity.beyondunreal.com/map_hub.php?mid=7029
No changes here, just updated for UT2004, eventhough the 2003 version worked without problems in UT2003. Well, atleast it did for me
SemiOfficial ONS Map Pack
http://games.bigpond.com/pc/resources/files/details/html/11070
http://rens2sea.com/download.php?view.33
This was released by Gamestop/Microsoft, as part of the"XP Extra's" program, and was unfortunately (for those without WinXP) only able to install on a machine which was running WinXP. Although it didn't take long for the maps to be distributed in Zip/RAR format by the community. ONS-Ascendancy mmmmmmm
Community Bonus Pack (1@2)
http://www.planetunreal.com/cbp/
Nothing to download yet, except if you haven't as yet got CBP1 for UT2003, but news that CBP1 is being converted for UT2004, and also news, and screenshots of CBP2 for UT2004. Some nice looking maps in CBP2, I'm sure there will be some nice stuff in there.

I've tried all the standard methods of getting it to run under XP (compatability tab) on my laptop.
I have a win 98 machine as well so I really did not try too hard though. (How many times will I have a sudden urge to model on the road after all)?
Laptops Are Great

you get one thinking "this is great, I'll be able to get alot of work done on the train, and I can work on the novel while drinking coffee and scotch down at the cafe." but in reality, where most people live, you end up using it as a luggable mp3player and surfing porn in bed.
I'm still lusting after an ibook though, on general principle.
Hmm

I did use mine to play the D3 leak on the train to brum. That was kewl.
But yeah, apart from that I may as well have a desktop (especially since any half decent laptop weighs too much to really be mobile anyway).
On The Plus Side

My brother snagged a copy of FarCry for 29 dollars at Best Buy -- I'm currently memorizing the 180 page manual - howza! On the downside, I have Jury Duty tommorrow. That's a real pisser.

I can play all three of the Quake games, and the mod's for it(like RTCW, Kingpin, et. al.) Both of the Max Payne games, Half life 1 with any of the mod's, Halo (sucked), Unreal, Unreal tournament, Unreal 2 (sucked),Serious Sam 1 & 2, on this pissy little laptop @ > 60 FPS. Usually more like 80+ FPS.
BF 1942 shadow layers really slow it down though < 40 fps. (so I turn 'em off)
Battery life drain's real fast though.
Lol

Unreal 2 (sucked)
oh 'cmon, Unreal 2 more than sucked, it gave new meaning to the word 'suck'

It was so bad. I can see that one as a standard phrase.
I asked an employee of Epic about Unreal2 right after it came out. He was quick to distance himself and the company from the matter and that for me begs the question, why did Epic contract their most valuable property out in order to focus on the multiplayer in the first place?
Lol, Unreal 2 (U2)

I have many CD's stashed away, ( mainly quake @ Unreal stuff, mainly Quake though) I have all maps I have downloaded referenced so I can see actualy what I have, without having to search through the CD's on the chance I may have something. My collection is far from complete, but it's enough to keep me going happily for many a year.
I will send the maps off shortly.

I didn't think Unreal 2 was _that_ bad.
Kinda suffered from 'DKT syndrome' in that the start of the game sucked enough to stop most people discovering that it improved as you went through
(still wasn't very good, but I didn't think it was a waste of my time)
Enclave Editor
#4010 posted by glassman on 2004/04/08 08:33:22
Has anyone tried the Enclave editor and can give feedback as to ease of use etc.?
The blurb says it can import .map so, if the editor is not easily learnt, is it practical to use GtkRad or whatever for the design and then simply add the ents in the editor?
Finally, have any custom Enclave maps been released?
Ogier
#4011 posted by cyBeAr on 2004/04/08 20:57:03
I had no problem learning it but on the other hand I was surrounded by people knowing it when doing it, I don't think you'll have much luck figuring it out without looking at a list of shorcuts since they're essential. Unfortunatly there's not much documentation coming with it but you should be able to get all your questions answered at the ogier forum: http://forum.starbreeze.com
Mapping for enclave is pretty much like making maps for a q3 engine game, the tech behind is very similar.
I think it only imports q1 .map files and if you'r going to make enclave maps I think it's better to spend some time learning ogier, in any case you won't have access to the textures in gtkrad.
I've tried making some simple quake maps in it and it works pretty well.
