On The Review..
Do you guys agree with the score I gave rpgsme? It seems like it might be a bit low, but I usually think of it like "If CZG07 is a 20/20..."

So I considered that a 20/20 couldn't just do everything right, it would have to also be amazing. A map that did everything right and had some cool features would probably be an 18. A good map would be in the 14-17 range. I consider rpgsme to be a really cool and original idea, but I didn't want to rate it over a 15 or 16 because it was a mini-pack and not a true pack or standalone map.
I Agree.
...completely.
Tronyn
score was fine, so were the ones in your last few views
Hm...
maybe it's just me, but i personally think all the scores should be much much lower to make room for future increase of mapping quality.

the trick would be not to look at the fractions as actual percentages, but more just a general score...

that's the one thing i dislike about underworldfan's (and now, Tronyn's) reviews. personally, i think it would have been better off with either: no score, or a much more general looking one, like something subjective: Near Perfection, Excellent, Good, Decent" instead of a definitive 19/20 or whatever...

but i guess it's too late to change anything this far into the game, so i guess that was pretty useless, eh? :)
I've Noticed When Reading Archived
review sites, that the 10 out of 10 given in the Spring of 97 would not be so impressive by the Fall of 97 when new editors came out and better quality maps became the norm. I can even see Doom3 having a direct impact on how we map for Q1. Last week for the parody theme which I intended to be my first speedmap entrance, I did a Tenebrae parody, where I baked exagerated shadows and glossiness into the standard tech textures using Photoshop. I decided not to use it as it would be a little cruel to that hard working but aestheticaly challenged team, but the end result was nearly convincing.
...
You have to judge whatever it is on the merits of the competition as it is today, not what it could possibly be tomorrow. That's just stupid.

Oh, Ramshackle, how I miss thee!
Well
I would do a DM review site if people were interested enough in writing.
Ramshackle....
...indeed, we each died a little on that tragic day....
Err...
Anybody else having a problem with gamesurge? My cable went out, then came back on, and now I'm having trouble connecting to it (other IRC servers work fine)...
No Problems Here, Biff.

Grah.
Well, someting is amiss, here. I've even reinstalled mIRC, and I still can't seem to connect. Dunno what could be up =(
Same
I've been trying for a bit now with no luck. We need to find a stable suitable server.

gamesurge is perfectly stable, nobody else is having problems.
Well...
...if it keeps Prod out, that can't be a bad thing?? =)
Prince Of Persia
So... should I get Prince of Persia on PC or GameCube? Discuss ((c) 2000-2004 Shambler, LLC.).
What Are Your Other Options :D
if you have a good pc , you can get it on PC (for ummm free *cough* )
Prince Of Persia
Ummm... I have it for the Xbox and whilst playing have thought quite often that the moves/controls on a PC would be a nightmare. That said, I am liking the experience quite a lot (about 5 hours in). It is very fun and atmospheric though a tad repetitious. Fun puzzles, nice fighting controls and a wonderfully/beautifully realized world.
Prince Of Persia
Whichever you like. PC has higher resolution if you've a decent graphics card, but the camera is slightly annoying. All the other controls are surprisingly well thought out.
Just Out Of Curiosity...
What modded quake exe does everyone use? Ive been using proquake, but I am looking pretty hard at fitzquake. Tomaz seems to have disappeared... and FUHquake is well... a little too different, same with the dark engine.

Im not really looking for a new look just some bug fixes and maybe better support for new hardware. Proquake is doing ok but there are some small problems with the HUD, and white lines around some textures. Also having trouble connecting to some servers. I thought with proq you could connect to anything...

Thanks FaT.
Well,
i personally really recommend Fitzquake. not only does it have lots of bug fixes as well as replacing botched effects like the stupid waterwarp, but there are some pretty awesome code optimizations in there. i've seen a fairly big decrease in render time just recently (around 56%), so FQ appears to be one of the fastest quake engines around. also, it keeps everything clean and original without any extra crap.
also, it features "overbright" lighting, which helps it emulate software lighting better so you don't get washed out looking lighting, and fullbright pixels (for glowing textures).

about the only thing i have against it is it still retains the original 600 edict limit so you still get packet overflows.

there's also tyr-quake (and tyr-glquake) which have a lot (if not all) limits removed (like the aformentioned edict limit).
panquake also has upped limits.

I use winquake... but then I'm on a 7+ year old PC. When I'm on a better machine I'll be using GLQuake.
Definitely Fitzquake
I hadn't tried it until recently but I tried FitzQuake about a week ago and I'm an immediate convert... its fast, stable, has lots of fixes and excellent enhancements (like the lighting, working r_drawflat, better noclip, etc etc).

And none of the annoying cheesy effects and other bollocks that people often add to these new engines.

Great work metlslime, much appreciated!
I Too!
Use metlslime exclusively for SP and testing maps! WTG metl you sex0r my world.
Metlslime = Fitzquake

I Despise...
...the lack of model interpolation personally. After being so used to GQ it looks horrid :-|
