Blassssssssttttttt From The Past!
http://www.planetquake.com/peejnfrib/main.shtml

Mid-skool style, baby. Go check out the columns, especially DaMaul's usual bollocks, Pingu's lavish affection for cheesey pop, and Cybear's best NYE celebratory message evar =).

Plus a lot of abuse and ranting from Frib & I in the news =)
GameCube On The PC
Because I know this is the last bastion of console (and specificly GameCube) players, I decided that this is the best place to ask this question.

I'm using a 21" monitor and some nice computer speakers, and I have a Gamecube I'd like plug in here instead of into a TV. I've done some research, and I've become completely inundated with the various options that are available. Component-to-VGA cables, VGA boxes, upscan converters, TV capture cards, video cards with TV capture built in, and probably a few that I missed.

Anyway, I'm wondering if anyone would be willing to recommend something. At the moment I'm thinking about a TV capture card, or perhaps an NVIDIA card that supports video in, but is there one anyone would recommend? Basically I would just need good quality audio and s-video in.

This is the kind of question those guys are particularly good at answering.

Both ends are Tia568B ? or one end is?
Both the wall run (router -> jack) and the patch (jack to computer) should be the same
type of cable (both Cat 5, Cat5e or Cat6)
shouldn't mix cable types in a run
(standards say it's supposed to work,
but in my experience sometimes doesn't).
Do you know someone you can borrow a cable
tester from (loopback ones are best)?
Also what brand router? that can have some
effect.

Coincidently Tom's Hardware just put up a
networking site not sure how helpful that
will be tho.

Thanks... but are you sure I should go in their forums and ask this? I don't want to anger anyone, and my question isn't exactly related to machinima.
XL1DM7 Released
Hey everyone, I've finally released a map. After years of development on and off, the map is complete and ready for you. Hope everyone enjoys it, I feel it is a pretty big improvement over my previous works. I'm sure I'll find out soon enough tho. Also thanks to jhrx who will be hosting my new website at http://prodigy.spawnpoint.com

Here is the stuff.

Commments are welcome as always. Thanks to all the testers over the course of the different maps that I had created between dm6 and this. Also thanks to the guys that play tested it with me, gave me some awesome feedback.
Damn It
those are all .orgs, i don't know what i was thinking. i wasn't. someone fix that

Jimbo - Re Network
Goes like this:

Only one end of the Long Cable Under the House is T568B. The other's wired like a normal Ethernet cable, with an RJ45 plug, and plugged directly into the router.

All cables are the same type.

But it sounds like we prolly need another T568B down this end too... oh well, at least they're not expensive.

(We don't even have easy access to a crimping tool - we used a nail punch - gingerly!)
Prod
It's jackbootylicious.

Thank you, I'll be here all week.

They are pretty accomadating. I use to post their all the time on a plethoria of topics before my humble little machinima production crew broke up last summer.
I'm surprised there are few msgboarders in this forum who post their given one of their major topic areas concern speed run recammers like Anthony of Dead on Que.
In fact, I assumed you were attempting to demo record a console based game, and even if I'm wrong about that in my humble opinion, your topic is related.
Fatty
The end that is RJ45
look at the wires,
if they are (pin side up, left to right)
1 white/orange
2 orange
3 white/green
4 blue
5 white/blue
6 green
7 white/brown
8 brown
that is T568B
If they start with white/green that is T568A.

When you say router doesn't see the PC, do you
mean that the link lights don't turn on on the
NIC and on the router? or the lights come on
but you can't ping/browse the internet?

Ouch a nail & punch, I hope you don't have to
put very many ends on.

I reread your original posting, and I guess you may be simply attempting to get the game cube to work with your monitor because you would prefer to play the cube using a pc monitor. The basic question behind this is if there is a convenient means of using a card to convert the tv signal to one the monitor would read natively. I tell you what, my brother is an engineer formerly with AGFA and now with Barco graphics who does this sort of thing for a living. I'll forward your question.
Over-Qualification
HeadThump: heh thanks. I think I was basically just looking for advice on what TV card would give the best quality. ;)
Ohhh Jiiiimmmbo
T568B: Yup, that's how all the naughty plugs are wired.

Alas! No light on yonder router breaks (but I'll check again late tonight, when I am told the sun will go down and I can actually see the damn things.) I haven't examined the Front computer's rear end though - and yes, I ditched all the drivers and had 98 reinstall 'em.

(And as for using a punch, well, five out of nine ain't bad, right?)

Screenies From Ikka's Map Look Very Nice
Ummmm...
It can not easily be described, as it is simply an improved Quake

Mmmmmm hmmmmm. Sorry, I really don't like the look of those shots. That might be a technical improvement but I don't see it as an aesthetic improvement.
Me Neither
All those shots look sad.
Iikka's maps look much more better in winquake/fitzquake than in this mutated shite.
Leave classic levels alone and make new maps for these engines, considering nu tech.
Jungle
Im looking for some jungle tracks whih featured Mc Navigator from the old radio one show `One In The Jungle`, wondering if any of the jungle experts could show me were I can find some. /me looks at Shambler.
Hmm Those DarkPlaces Shots
really don't do justice to the engine, its a lot less 'mutated shite' than it appears there... fits in rather well with the Quake aesthetic too (very gritty and dark).

It's a shame there isnt a version without the optional bloated features (technically amazing but not neccessary for standard quake maps). I'm not sure it slows it down at all but its a psychological thing for me i think :)
Vondur/shambler
you really think shots 5 and 8 of ikka's maps look that bad? The others dont look great because there's all that extra new weapon flash etc crap but IMHO shots 5 & 8 look pretty cool.
Shambler/vondur:
from the darkplaces screenshots page:

personally I prefer the id1 textures over most of the qe1 textures but people wanted to see screenshots of this
