Can't Post Links Here Eh?
Starbuck:
Good luck with your theme, I hope people stick to it and produce some good varied maps within that style....oh wait, it's speedmapping isn't it, okay, make that just varied maps within that style =).

My earlier suggestion was "terrain map with ancient/medieval setting" - thinking stuff like Swamp....n/m
Heh Thanks
if we have any success this time then maybe we can try your theme in an upcoming session
Shambler
sood good speedmaps have been made.
Why do you consistently prefer to be negative?
Well To Be Fair
a good speedmap is still not a good map :)

(join us tonight!)
Yeah Well
whatever. :)

Good job Starbuck on doing the speedmaps.
I Am Sooo Happy

My complementary copy arrived yesterday, with that drawn inside. I am sooo happy and proud to have been involved in this book's creation (under the 'nym of Cardboard Box.)

Interview With John Carmack
If anyones interested .......................

From The Carmack Interview Above...
GameSpy: As a triple-A company, can id work on any smaller ideas?

John Carmack: I thought it would be kind of neat if we took the DOOM renderer, and we had a team take previous games-don't touch the game, just revamp it graphically. Just take Quake II, and just use the DOOM engine to make brand new graphic models and everything. But don't spend time messing with the gameplay because we know that is pretty good. Just release it as Quake II Remix with brand new graphics technology and sell it at a middle-level price instead of a boutique price.

to highlight - "But don't spend time messing with the gameplay because we know that is pretty good"

fucking ROFL!!!!!!!
Hmm
I assume building all the content (textures, levels geometry and models) takes most time in the development process now. Thus remaking q2 would be almost as hard and timeconsuming as making a new shooter on d3 engine.
Yeah, Unless Carmack Knows Something We Don't :)
maybe id are planning to release their own quake retextured pack!
From The Carmack Interview Above...
You can decompose Pixar Renderman shaders into multi-passes

I often think that myself. :P
O_0
fucking ROFL!!!!!!!

My sentiments entirely.
He really hasn't got a clue about anything other than the engine, has he?
No; He Has Other People For That
Inside id there is a group that really, really does not want to do another sequel.
Speedmapping Pack 45 Released
get it at:

proper news post to follow
On The Other Hand...
If he had said Quake 1 I would have been all for it...
You Fuckers
Quake 2 was great.
Hey!
We had cube-mapping, dot re-rendering, and geometry acceleration...

Common Carmack, just come out and say it, you love my Cube maps.
Sm45
Not bad at all. Daz's map was very interesting, but I couldn't exit the map. It also took me a while to figure out where the last monster were ...

Raptore's and Scampie's had good combat but were too dark IMHO.

Ray's map was ... crate ...
Bah
My map is un-completeable due to a few bugs that I didn't have time to fix :(

Also, the platforms a little screwed, but you can get to the top, so t3h new rule is:

If you get to the top and kill the enemies there, you win! :)

P.S. Cool map, it's like one of those shitty but mad experimental '97 maps but done but someone who actually has a clue about mapping...
