Never Been Much Of A Valve Person
But I'm cautiously optimistic about both the game and VR.
When Carmack left Oculus last week, he cited his disappointment with the progress in VR, and the lack of progress in VR can be attributed to low hardware adoption and a lack of major releases.
Both of that will change with HL3A.
I'm Hyped
I am so glad that they're revisiting this universe and the great thing about it being a prequel to HL2 means the expectations will by lower, also it's going to be for all VR platforms and not just index so kudos to them for this.
It's Toss.

No-one plays VR. And even if Valve's desperate attempt to market VR by making HL3 exclusive to it quadruples the number of VR players, that's still no-one. It's a waste of an HL game.
On A Much Happier Note.

Referring to Redfield's post a while back:
A Plague Tale has beautiful art direction, stunning environments and character models.
Absolutely correct:

Although:
A Plague Tale has unique gameplay mechanics and story driven experience.
The gameplay isn't that thrilling, although it's well done for what it is. However it's very definitely recommended for the superb style and atmosphere alone. A lot of mapping inspiration in there too.
Over 7 Million VR Devices Shipped This Year
I own a Quest and PSVR and play them often. I'm excited that this is a "full length" game and that's it non-exclusive. GG Valve.
PS4 Sold 8 Million+ This Year

Bringing the total to 100 million.
Just to pull a random statistic out of the internet's arse. I suspect that 7 million units sounds big but is pretty small fry in the totatlity of games machines that could run an HL3 fps.
Stats
The point is that the user base is growing year over year. "No one plays VR" is absolutely incorrect.
It's A Generalisation Obviously.

"A slowly growing but still exceptionally small and thus almost entirely irrelevant proportion of gamers play VR" - is that better??
I now of two whole people I've encountered off/online who actually play VR games, congrats on being the second one! But, good for you being able to play HL3, it does look real cool aside from being VR. Would be nice if it could have been both - equally obviously.
Incidentally I found an interesting comparison was the Diabo Immoral (ggwp otp for that name) fuss. I strongly suspect a lot more gamers have access to mobile phones and maybe even play games on them - yet that branching out got panned. Not that it all means much (apart from fanboys being idiots).

I mean, it's obvious they are using this game to sell hardware -- just like a console exclusive. It only works if the game is good enough that people are willing to buy a new thing to play it.
I probably won't buy it. I generally don't buy a console for a single game, though.
Yup.
#10555 posted by Shambler on 2019/11/23 10:12:27
I hate console exclusives because they're console exclusives....
I'd say it's arguably even worse making an exclusive out of a very highly anticipated / desired instalment in an established PC series, rather than with a new IP (like, I dunno, Horizon Zero Dawn), that doesn't have an established fanbase on a particular gaming machine.
Imagine if iDthesda turned around and made Doom Eternal into a Switch exclusive. FFS.
This isn't even a Valve VR exclusive.
Doesn't Matter, VR Is Still More Obscure And Restrictive.

Apsulov End Of Gods, a minor sleeper hit in the curious narrative sci-fi horror sort of vein, with a cyber-viking (yes really) theme.
This is very much a B-List game (at a B-List price) with various crudities and issues, though nothing serious. BUT, it is quite interesting and appealing in it's own way. Story progression is fine, there's some good interactions, several good jump scares, some cool scenes and some freaky ones. And the theme / background is pretty fresh. Worth a look if you like this sort of thing. And it actually feels like the source material and core ideas could have easily warranted AAA production to make a likely minor classic.

GOTY.
A truly beautiful narrative game. Sure it has the usual narrative / interactive movie pitfalls (linear, restrictive, stealth-lite / puzzle-lite gameplay is mostly adequate rather than exceptional - although it does get progressively more interesting, apart from the dire and obtuse boss combat), BUT as far as the genre goes it really is a captivating experience. Graphics are excellent and are fully harmonious with the art direction and atmosphere rather than just being good for the sake of it, the whole presentation is of a rich and realistic medieval world. With the surprisingly endearing characters and characterful (and sometimes gruesome) hazards, it is quite enthralling.
It's also only £20 at the moment so if you have any taste, decency, or shreds of humanity left, you'll get it:

Kingpin Reloaded trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bIZncEjZoig
"The classic 1999 shooter is back!
Kingpin: Reloaded, the remastered, enhanced version of the crime-themed first-person shooter developed and published by 3D Realms and Interplay, recruits new gang members on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC later this year.
In a stylized noir art deco gangland that never was, the Kingpin rules above all else with a bloody fist. When his lieutenant Nikki Blanco leaves a no-name Thug battered and broken, the upstart criminal rises from a puddle of blood, lead pipe in hand and revenge in mind."

Judging by the trailer, it looks like someone has recognised the potential for this to be one of those "meme games" that tend to do quite well, so maybe marketing are onto something after all.
