The Last Monster In Sm193_newhouse Fix
#11 posted by Newhouse on 2019/03/07 16:32:52
I just noticed third fiend never happens on hard/nm because it is stuck on the beginning painting and can't monster jump to the pit.
If someone wonders where this final monster is, I will have here quick fix for those who wants to 100% complete the map:

Geez, Bal's map is HORRIBLY AWESOME!
Everything seems to be perfect there! I quickly played it and I'll replay it later since my erection is long lasting. Fuck, what a map!!
Amazing Map Bal

I assume it's in no way a speedmap, for my own sanity if nothing else. But regardless, its fantastic even for a proper release. Really nicely paced. Lovely theme, are those Oblivion or Skyrim textures?

Bal, in the megahealth room with two vores the player can actually squeeze back outside despite bars. Not sure if intended.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. I basically started the map with the whole theme set out from another map, basically a small boxroom full of prefabs (columns, light pedestals, arches, crystals, etc.) so I did a lot of copy-pasting of that stuff, and pretty much spent all of my free time in the last few days to make the map.
Flint yeah others have noticed that thing with the vore-trap, dunno how I missed it hah, pretty lame. :)
Started streaming the pack, video is here:

So far I played:
- sm193_ukko
Wery original as usual, such great ideas in here, and looks great.
- sm193_otp
Solid little map, plays well.
- sm193_newhouse
As usual, very inventive gameplay, quite tough at times, but fun.
- sm193_kamp
First time mapper apparently, a bit on the simple side, but plays well, very promising for a first map, especially considering it's a speedmap.
- sm193_danz
Really short map, but cool visuals, a longer version would be great.
- sm193_pinchy
I'm starting the pinchyskree fanclub if anyone wants to join, love these open ended map, and unusual visuals.
Great work everyone, will try to stream the rest tonight/this weekend.
More Demos
played rest of the maps. here is a link for demos.
- Ionous
- Ish
- JCR
- kamp
- marandal
- nait
- newhouse
- otp
- pinchy
- sham
- ukko
@ish, @newhouse, @ukko: I didn't finish your maps, but demos are there. I wanted to say many horrible salty things to each of you, but I'm trying to lead peaceful life, so instead I'll say this - your maps are full of dick moves and I sincerely hope you don't expect everyone to like it.
@newhouse, stay weird dude, but your unhealthy fascination with spawns is troubling. its a shame really because otherwise your map is rather interesting, but I can't stand that shit with spawns.
@sham(bler? naut?) anyway, something wrong with the exit. it doesn't go all the way up and keeps hurting player. I managed to get out by jumping on that elevator while it goes up, but its really weird.

Yeah. Known issue. Fuck knows. Even Bal doesn't know. Gonna ask negke - he might as well do something useful with his bitching about my mapping!
So.

Shambler:
:D
[16:35]
negke:
that sounds like an engine bug (or something deep within the qbsp code)
i ran across this issue before in my 768 map and in the huge terracotta map from orl's ter shibboleth
[16:35]
Shambler:
it sounds like something you'd be good at fixing
since you like the "behind the scenes" stuff
[16:36]
negke:
i have no idea how to fix it since it's not an identifiable error
maybe move the whole map 1024 units down?
[16:36]
Shambler:
okay
apparently bal made his tower 1 unit taller than mine, and he doesn't get any exit bugs....
[16:37]
negke:
it happens even though it shouldn't. apparently always on long lift rides
in maya, yeah
[16:38]
Shambler:
lol
that worked

@Bal, I echo the sentiment of others, your map is exceptional!

Short Thoughts And Demos
#23 posted by Spud on 2019/03/10 08:08:41
Bal: I'll believe this is a speedmap when Hell freezes over. Lots of fun little ramp jumps.
Danzadan: Somehow still missed the secret.
Fairweather: Skipped a few dozen enemies somehow. I think I broke it.
Ing: Didn't finish it. Surprisingly nonlinear for a speedmap.
Ionous: Loads of ammo, or so the player initially thinks. Spawns!
Ish: Required ramp jumping that might not be to everyone's tastes. Did not finish. More ammo, less maze, please.
JCR: I have no idea where two secrets are hidden in here. Enjoyed it, the last room with the throne is a neat setpiece.
Kamp: Found a few buttons that didn't seem to do anything?
Marandal: It's a box of Knights. Not gonna be rude about it, but... it's a box of Knights.
Nait: Good as usual. Lots of dancing. Liked the key indicator.
Newhouse: Multiple demos from getting lost and giving up. Sandy would be proud.
otp: Ellipsis as secret hint is like tragic past as backstory.
Pinchy: My favorite aesthetically by far. Genuinely feels otherworldly, and even foreboding despite the bright visuals- the music helps enormously there. Legitimately feels like I'm somewhere I'm not supposed to be, which was doubled up as harder enemies spawned in and I discovered the lifts are instagib machines. I cannot praise this map further while keeping my pants on.
Shambler: Sandy lives, again. Didn't finish. Close enough. Pretend I did. Press Jesus, receive bacon.
Ukko: Sometimes you just want to blow the shit out of everything, and I understand that. Thought it was another slaughtermap but giving the player limited ammo at the start and that's it (other than the secrets) has potential to be awful; I found it fun. The thematic shift at the very end is a total cocktease.
Usual blind Skill 2 demos here.
Finished

Played the rest, great stuff, link to stream:

- sm193_fairweather
Really good for a first map, the secret area was especially fun.
- sm193_ing
I hate you in the best of ways ing.
- sm193_ionous
Very fun map, lots of action.
- sm193_ish
This layout is amazing, pretty confusing though (especially the end), but I really liked it. Loved all the ramp jumping involved. Also nice burger. :D
- sm193_jcr
Nice little map, was this supposed to be an Forest Temple remake?
- sm193_marandal
I accidentally killed some knights.
- sm193_naitelveni
Nait's usual qualite, great visuals and gameplay, love it.
- sm193_sham
Fun multi-arena map, felt like it was easy to skip lots of it?
Great pack once again!

it reminds me of Heides tower of flame from Dark Souls 2. Very atmospheric!

Finally Got Around To This!

Can't believe this was several months ago!
Streamed my playthrough of the first part https://www.twitch.tv/videos/450654768 (Bal through Ionous's map in alphabetical order).
Loved the env art of Bal's map.
Cheated my way through a couple spots in Ing's map.
Part 2
#32 posted by Mclogenog on 2019/07/24 05:23:44
Played the next set of maps, but still have a few more to go. Here's the video with my yammering https://www.twitch.tv/videos/457149952
The first hour was going through Ish's nightmare ice dungeons. Felt like something out of some cruel RPG dungeon design, or "Quake for people who've been playing Quake for 20+ years" (which I haven't). In some ways this is really cool, and I feel accomplished for completing it. But in other ways I wish it was more clear.
Then went through JCR's, Kamp's, Marandal's, and Naitelveni's maps. Really enjoyed the references to Ocarina of Time's Forest Temple in JCRs and the E1M1 reskin in Nait's. The gameplay in JCR's map was also really nice, with plenty of resources, as a change of pace from Ish's tense grind.
Part 3
#33 posted by Mclogenog on 2019/07/31 04:48:08
Phew! Finally wrapped up this speedmap pack https://www.twitch.tv/videos/460361396 this time with Newhouse, OTP, Pinchy, Shambler, and Ukko.
Some gorgeous environments throughout this set of maps, and some interesting encounter design to think about (and struggle through).
I think this ended up being like 5-6 hours of gameplay in total, which is bananas! Good job everybody :)
