Walk Like An Egyptian

A very fine addition to AD. The presence of water is an otherwise very dry, hot and sandy environment makes this map rather comfy.

Daz lives in the countryside, too. As a matter of fact, Steyning is so small and secluded that it doesn't even appear on a map and can only be reached on horseback (I think). And still, he has good internet for streaming!

Loved the blue ceilings and green sky. Excellent take on the egyptian theme. Waterfalls were a nice touch. The secrets showing up later on after getting all the buttons were...wierd. By the time I got them I didn't need the goodies in them and plus its just mean having secrets show up in places you already looked and crossed off in your head as "nope nothing here".
Other than that this is a fun one.
A Good Time!

I spent almost an hour soaking up the scenery, dispatching baddies, and hunting for secrets. The Pent and RL did me no good, because I found them after the fact. Breakables would be welcome, too. I really wanted to axe open some sarcophagi!
GG, Sock! Cheers!

Played through on skill 3, 109/110 and 10/10 secrets. Took maybe 30-35 minutes. Combat wasn't too difficult and the map offered loads of rewards for exploration. When I unlocked the end door I only had 4/10 secrets, but some poking about revealed sock's secret style for the map and I breezed through the next 4 before getting stuck on the last 2. Ended up finding them and in retrospect, none of the secrets were particularly "left-field" or hard to spot.
Architectural style was excellent as usual, and the map felt much bigger than it really was due to how much of it was built on top of itself. The waterfalls weren't as cool as I expected them to be. Just a long rectangular brush with a very low-FPS scrolling texture on it. Not a charming effect, even for Quake.
I'll probably play back through later and record it.

Thanks everyone for the feedback and demos, it was a lot of fun to create and cool to see my crazy map style is liked! :)

Thanks to spirit and negke for posting the map on the Quaddicted database. I imagine the influx of many new maps is playing havoc with their usual pace of one map a month! :P
If anyone has posted a low score I would greatly appreciate to know why. Obviously some people are just going to shout 'I hate it', but hopefully others will be able to point the finger at what part of the experience they felt was wrong and articulate it in a constructive way.
As always thanks for the demos posted so far. I would like to stress that the map is designed to be played several times. The RL/Pent can be acquired long before the final lift up or the lower floor area around the giant pyramid. As with all secrets, its tricky timing!
So Many Maps!

I think I hold the record for the most maps released by a single person that is not in a map jam or Arcane Dimensions in January 2017. 3 main hexcalk maps were distributed to Quaketastic in this month. To add in to the overall number, I made 8 versions of implo1t dys3ngage, 2 of them being bugfixes to hc1, and 1 of them is a beta. So implo1t was the most frequently re-released map of the month.
This high count of my publicly available .bsp files at the first month of the year means 8+2=10. But nicely, you were still patiently normal while publishing an ambitious mod with so many maps and new content. AD has more maps than I ever made (which is as of now 11, not counting test maps), so yeah that's true.

Having to re-release a map multiple times because you fucked up the first release and didn't do enough testing is not something to be proud of.
Using your mapping skills and any available beta-testing, plus knowledge gained from looking and playing other maps, to refine and hone your maps so they are really high quality on their release and don't need fixing....that is a better goal.
Indeed.

Okay, I now give up being proud of re-releasing implo1t multiple times. Selfless victory.
My upcoming map hc3 is being built with that better goal in mind: polishing a beta-tested map to higher quality standards (without the need of fixing). Thanks for noticing the fact, Shambler. You're a reliable person.
And of course, SleepwalkR, thanks for making TrenchBroom!

I'd rather pick one map from Sock, than 100 from hex, i'm sorry, no offense

Completely different route by going straight into the waterfall area from a secret at the start. Very cool to have that option, can skip 1/3 of the monsters that way. Of course I didn't and went back and rekt their arses. Still can't remember how to get the MH pyramid secret legitimately. I did get the MH "below" that in the waterfall room which I'm sure I didn't get first time, very fun. Best Retrojam6 map for sure.

Very enjoyable map. Love the details and shapes, interconnected layout, lighting and all. Gameplay is good fun, really appreciated the two quad events, and of course cool secrets and 'off-route' pickups. The blue parts give it a unique aesthetic along with the warm lighting... quite the spa vibe.
I feel like I should say more, but can't think of anything else. Just another sock map!

Replayed this gem for, I don't know, the 5th time yesterday, focusing on finding all secrets and other hidden treasures. I think I got them all now, except the MH on top of the pyramid with the RL inside.
Anyone who knows how to access it? I can of course rocket jump to it, but guess there's a smarter way of getting it.
