Very Awesome

i have played very few user maps for blood, but this one is indeed wicked stuff. lots of really nice details.i did have trouble with the puzzle until it just worked for me. very awesome map though. :D
BloodCM is pretty damn faithful tbh. I managed to suffer dosbox but a more native solution would have been better.
I get less than great frames and I get a lot of graphical glitches like weapons as nd the hud disappearing.
Thanks For All The Feedback Guys, Appreciated!

@Skacky: Hopefully the ending won't feel so anticlimatic once later levels in the series are available. Unless there's something in particular you feel could be improved here despite that?
@BloodCM: While a neat emulation of Blood, it's not quite a 1:1 replica. That and amongst other reasons, I'd rather stick with mapping for the original game honestly.
More BloodCM Thoughts
It would be great if there was a way to make cross compatible maps or have a conversion tool. Or even a way of saving in both file formats.
As much as I love Blood I just detest the compatibility issues

So there's now a decent way to play the original game without DOSBox lags? This is really cool.
Too bad about custom content.

dwere no, BloodCM really is not the same. Its more cosmetic tc of duke with approximate movement feel of blood but its not it.
Ray of hope here is the XLEngine project I linked above.
But otherwise, what the fuck are people on about laggy and whatnot Blood dosbox ?
Granted you may need a tad of tinkering with the settings, and make sure you are using BMOUSE but its perfectly smooth and playable with even a lower end machine.

I'm glad it works so well for you.
Runs poor on my machine. I have an i7 4790k and a gtx 970.
I even tried installing windows 95 through a virtual machine but I couldn't get it to work

Maybe fiddle with cpu cycle settings in DosBox?
I'll survive. Pretty certain I suffered playing quake at 15fps back in the day.
The framerate is not a big deal compared to the disappearing hud and weapons.

"Pretty certain I suffered playing quake at 15fps back in the day."
I played the original Quake demo on a 486DX2-50. Even at 320x200 or whatever it was, 15 fps was just wishful thinking.

Well not sure what version you are using etc but there are plenty guides around on optimizing performance with dosbox.
The biggest effect and main take-away is to reduce the games internal resolution to 640x480
There are fixes for the flashing hud and weapons too, nolfblim

In my case it's not about the version I'm using, but rather the hardware I'm stuck with.
It wasn't a low-end laptop when I bought it, but it was several years ago, and, well, it's a laptop. Running 3D games in DOSBox is a CPU-intensive task, regardless of settings.
And I can't upgrade because I'm a cheap bum.
Of course, you can simply say that it's my problem. Never said it wasn't.

Cheers for linking that guide, finally fixed the annoying flashing hud problem and in turn also stopped tiles flickering in the editor's texture browser too. That'll make that part of mapping less of an eyesore!

i opend doors and later ded pls fix
I forgot about the doors auto-closing, and got crushed by double doors while checking for cultists.
So, I didn't get far, but I hope to play more of it tomorrow on my lunch break :)
Cool Fix
Thanks Killes. I can now play Blood without much in the way of issues!

its a good map, technique wise very good. maybe a bit short, kind of a teaser map as the author mentioned. enemy placement could be a bit better.
i liked the duke map a lot.

Okay, actually finished it. I do most of my gaming on lunch breaks at work so it took a while to get the game working well on this machine, and then playing it.
I like it, a lot. A little more of a puzzle than I am used to with Blood, but, all the pieces were there before me - I just looked in the wrong direction first (tried inferring meaning, then tried going through the various journals, and noting order of symbol discovery). I loved the mood of the map, and the amount of gameplay that was fit into one space while still retaining a sense of discovery.
I found the Use to read items to be very clever, and enjoyed the microsecrets such as bullets behind potted plants, and items being used as decoration.
I found the difficulty on Normal to be a bit easy, but that is a conundrum with Blood since I hate the damage/health profiles above that... Never did use the remote dynamite or aerosol. Typically full or nearly full on all ammo.
Almost missed the shotgun entirely because of the plants discouraging me from approaching the area.
Few bugs, most of which are more so attributable to Build than to the map, though there was an ironic HOM in the mirror...
I expected more things to have interaction than they did, though if you are building a sort of standalone story, I could understand avoiding triggers that make Caleb talk, so the player can more so be themselves.
I _really_ hope you finish this, assuming you maintain this theme and feel (very M.R. James with an edge). Definitely one of the best things I could've spent this Halloween doing. Thank you for your work!
Nice Map!

I haven't played Blood for a while, so I played this map on "Pink on the Inside" difficulty. I know... I'm a noob ;)
My playthrough
As someone mentioned before, ending is kinda weak. It ends suddenly, but I guess it will have much more sense when You'll finish other maps in this "episode".
Puzzle was cool I like it.
When do you plan to release another portion of this story? Do You have any other Blood maps released that I can play?
I saw You made few Duke3D maps, I'm gonna check them out too :)

Cheers for the video. I'm starting to feel auto-closing doors are causing more harm than good despite their purpose. You also had a very close call to instant-death first time entering the library because of that door.
Sequels won't be out until sometime during the next year, ideally all the remaining planned levels in this series. No other Blood maps I'm afraid, this is my first one so far.

Yeah I was lucky with this door :D
Looking forward to play your next map.

This is actually the first custom Blood level I've played. Very nice, top-notch design and good layout. I liked the puzzle and putting hints in the books was a nice touch (although I didn't realize they were interactive at first), very Thief-like. I look forward to the next maps in the series--and hell, I should check out more Blood maps.
Blood Maps...
Death Wish is one I keep hearing about.

Death Wish is amazing and you should totally play it right about now. Why are you still reading this?
