Stop being a whiny little sod
 A.I.
In my opinion, rock solid human-esque A.I. isn't that needed. Perhaps for games where you battle humans, but monsters should each have their own good and solid behaviour, and unless they're supposed to, shouldn't be very smart.

but often games become "wanking" the same thing over and over again if the enemies are too simple, exploitable and predictable. Like, say, lone hellknights in a corridor vs a supershotgun.
Shoot, back off, shoot, back off... he just keeps walking at you until he dies. Of course level designers can do something with that, but anyway...
Of Course, The Point Isn't About Rock Solid Human-esque AI

I mean hell we could just give SP enemy UT2KX bot AI. But it's not about uber combat AI or even uber humansque intelligence as the main purpose. It's about having the OPTION to do that, and thus do any of the steps in between that and the current no-AI.

what are you saying here?
No, it just doesn't interest me and doesn't make me feel anything I'd like to from a game or movie or documentary or anything... Feelings like excitement, sense of wonder, thrill, etc. - it does not produce that. Just sadness and disgust.

My own PC is still 350 km away, but I am getting to use the PC of my roommate and I plan on doing some mapping. Can someone point me to a site with a lot of texture WADs? I am looking for all kinds: hipnotic, rogue, zer, hexen2, praevus, quake2, dkt, etc, etc...

 Game Company Consistency
#7872 posted by bambuz on 2005/06/03 06:08:53
the above post brings to mind one question about why are some many game sequels so bad? Star Control 2 , multiplayer quake, civilization, master of orion come to mind.
Is it because game companies fire "hard to deal with" people, that were the soul of the previous games? Then they have a bunch of noob slaves who just add some "cool" features that make it just a big mess with no coherence.
I can only think of sierra and lucasarts back then who turned out good games consistently... Could someone make some statistical research as to how sequel goodness equates with "keeping the good people on". I have to reread some threads.

in the above post, i mean the games star control2 etc are good but their sequels bad or at least not nearly so good.

I'll post this here to avoid filling up Kell's thread with it, I did make a post,(at least I thought I did, didn't seem to show up) regaurding nglquake and it's weapon effects, I am not sure if you can or can't turn them off, as I like them and have never tried to turn them off. They are not over the top or anything, however whether you like like them or not is a personal thing. I had a quick look and can't see anything in the cfg file or readme. There is a newer version available than the one I use, but it changed the weapon effects a bit, and for the worse IMO, there was also something else that I didn't like about the newer version, but that escapes me at the moment.
 Civ2

suffered from the same problem as civ1, where you'd attack some naked spearsmen with a battalion of armored laser tanks and they'd lose.

Whatever, all those Sid Meier games - Civ, Civ 2, Colonisation - all of em were great.
The original was my favourite, though.
