DHCP Aint Bad.
NAT is. Users of certain ISPs here have severe difficulties connection to (for example) IRC servers, because they all seem to originate from ONE external IP address. Evil.
CZG...
If you can find the time to utter the words:

!clvl scampie -1000

and

!kb *!*@ravensoft.com

or similar, that would bring peace and harmony to the world.

P.S. Go map.
Question
Does anyone have a good link to some 2D art stuff, like all those urber leet photoshop backgrounds that kids have floating around? I need some inspiration for my art class .

I've also been going through the inspiration thread so that's help but I'd like to see some specific 2D art stuff. Thanks guys.
ProdigyXL,
You mean purty effects for web page interface design? Here is a decent link http://www.eyeball-design.com/fxzone/frames02.htm
Lun
noted. apologies.
Prod:
screw the berfilterbackgrounds and go for artists like http://www.goodbrush.com (craig mullins), http://www.cafesale.net/bengal/index.php3 (bengal) and http://www.sparth.com/ (sparth=nunuk)or some other cool digitalartists.
The Goodbrush
Artist brush work is annoying in its mannerism. Too much thick clumping as an 'arty' effect. It could be cleaner. Much cleaner.

Good sense of form, but another common mannerism is to allow light, color and shadow to obscure form in unrealistic ways and that I see it here in spades.
Sparth,
Now that is pretty decent work. Clean lines. Good lighting and atmosphere. One niggle, but almost all modern artist do it. Some pics (ie. http://www.sparth.com/gallery/displayimage.php?album=17&pos=11) have big splatches of shadow in the forground. I would rather see the shadow softened or placed at a more stark angle so the ships form is not obscured.

But I like.
NAT Chat Fix
Yes NAT does appear to be more evil,
as an ex-server admin I hated dhcp as well.

Nat fix:
get tor
http://www.freehaven.net/tor/
point your irc, aim etc. through there using
socks5 (or socks 4 with privoxy) works for me
on my college net.
or find a free proxy server somewhere and use that instead.
www.samair.ru/proxy has a list

:)

Nunuk blows my mind so hard my skull flies open and sprays party favors.
Oh Hey
So I actually read the Doom3 SDK's EULA, which has certain provisions for mods and stuff (the New Creations). This stood out.

The New Creations shall not be downloaded or otherwise exported or re-exported into (or to a national or resident of) any country to which the United States has embargoed goods or to anyone or into any country who/that are prohibited, by applicable law, from receiving such property.

I'm probably going to have to add a click through in the installer when I'm done with Byz to verify that the player is not Cuban or a towelhead.
Lunaran,
lol

U Rock!

if (client->IsADirtyTowelHead())

cout << "LOL PWNED\n";
VoteBush(TRUE);
}

return;
}

ResumeInstallation();

... you suck...

..... even if I think this code is quite funny !!
PATH=usr/bin/laden;
Coder humor is not funny.
Friction..
.. this one is funny as well... but what is the use of the "laden" tool ?? Airplane crashes or dish-washer simulator ???

TFT Monitors...
...anyone have any recommendations for a TFT monitor (not for gaming, I know the 16-20ms delay thing and all that), 17" preferably, middle-of-the-road quality...

...oh and easily available in the UK too.

Advice would be appreciated, kthxetc.
I Thought The Joke Was
rm -rf cgi/bin/laden

Thinkgeek doesn't sell the shirt anymore, so I can't verify actual unix syntactical compliance on that.

But it's funny, trust me!
Shambler
avoid tft as much as u can.....
there's still no proper tech in tft to handle games properly....
For Smabler
Shambler
I looked into screens a lot recently, researching before i built my new PC. Seriously, ignore all the advice about Lcd's being so inferior for gaming... I've played dozens of games on my new TFT display, and its about one-thousand times better than my old 17" CRT.

There's no ghosting at all on pretty much any new panel, and brightness and clarity can be very high if you pick a good make and model; pick wrong and you can still end up with a crap display though.

The screen I ended up choosing isn't really the spec you requested, but I'm SO happy with it, I thought I'd share. I bought a Viewsonic VX910, which is a stunning 19" monitor... the new version of it which came out seconds ago has a 12ms response time and it costs about 390 inc. VAT, so its CHEAP.

Here's a thread on larger screens:
http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?s=c006b0599b494a26dd6fe9d3db3767a8&threadid=17299216

Here's a page with all the screens you should consider in any size:
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_Monitors_17.html

The screens that are currently generally considered best value for high-quality gaming Lcds are:

LG 1715S 17" LCD Monitor - Silver
costs only around 210!! dirt cheap and very highly respected

Hyundai ImageQuest L70S+ 17" LCD Monitor - Black/Silver
costs 230, which is cheap, and 12ms responce time makes this one of the best 17" monitors money can buy.

Sharp LL-172G 17" LCD Monitor - Black
260, but if you want an all round screen, this is probably the classiest, and the most comfortable to look at i've seen for a 17".

Viewsonic VX715 X Series 17" LCD Monitor - Black/Silver
only 220. I've never seen this screen in person, but if its anything like the 19" screen that i own which is in the exact same style, it'll be awesome. It's only slightly let down by its response time which surprisingly is twice as slow as the 19" version.

hope this helps...
Remove All Morons Out Of The Way.
Which bit of "(not for gaming, I know the 16-20ms delay thing and all that)"</Q>
was proving so difficult to understand??

But anyway, thanks a lot for the advice, Starbuck, will look into those.
Bwhahahaa
Which bit of using the quote tags correctly was proving so difficult to understand??

Remove all Shambler out of the way, doh.
Shambler - 18" Too Big For You, Baby?
This one is well-reputed and seems fine for gaming. Oh, and's astoundingly cheap:

Prediction
I'm looking at the PC Game release list, and I think I can make a solid prediction. Playboy : The Mansion (released on November 5th) will be utter tosh, but somehow become one of the most extensively warez'ed game this year.
