Editing and deleting is dangerous stuff. One of the best things about the site is that nothing ever disappears from it. People come and go but what they talked about and knowledge they shared still exists today, and that's really neat.

Deleting: nope
Editing: yes, but only for the first hour after posting, so you can fix broken links etc.

If this hypothetical edit function is to be used for legit purposes, (fixing typos, bad links) and not just for shitposting reasons, then the edit window should be small - 1 hour seems too generous.
Thing is, I don't really see the point of this when you can just use the already existing "post preview" feature. If posts are still full of errors after you've previewed it, you're just sloppy and deserve to have your stupidly written in stone for all eternity.

Moderators can edit posts. Why not just let them do it if it realy has to be done?
No We Can't.

Only the initial topic posts.
+1 for editing within a short time frame. Nuff double posts and broken HTML etc.

Time limited edit should be available, but no deleting.
The preview works if you remember to use it. If there was an option to post only after at least one mandatory preview, I would use it.
Lifes too short to use preview!
Also theres legit reasons to have an edit and delete. I'd use it to delete my own weird spam (like triple posts) and edit out typos.
This whole "etched in stone" business is just daft.

~30 minute window to edit posts sounds fair to me.
Easier to make some sort of client-side throttle that blocks accidental posts.

Force Preview In Posts With Links

If you wanna post links, you'll have to preview them. And since you're there anyway, please click them to check if they work. If you had to preview your links and still screwed up, well...
Pure text posts wouldn't require preview.
That would be enough. No need to edit. And triple post detection should be on the site (or not).

what if when you put the post #number in the title of your post it creates a link to that post.

I would still really like to see a neat round number of 10 perma-threads. 4 additions needed:
Coding Help
Engine Discussion
Other PC Games

Not really sure why people want to pin more threads. If anything, I think we should reduce them. Jobs & Mappers Wanted would be fine as a standard thread with the level of attention it gets.
