Inspiration & Reference
I just wanted to know if people had any links to good websites for either level design inspiration (photos, paintings, concept art, etc.) or just for architectural reference. We had a thread like this on the old qmap, but we know how much good that does us.

More Industrial Stuff

I love the lighting effects more than the architecture but I am sure someone here will dig the pipes and stuff.

Very nice, thanks for that.
Sock
Nice video you find out there ! Very good reference for industrial design, really ;)

2:05 - 2:28 crazy awesome, especially the first one... like being in a canyon made of metal. o.o
Russian Aluminium Processing Plant In Hires For Wallpapers ;)
Nice

This site is amazing. Just started up a few weeks ago and they add a new concept artist almost every day. TONS of environmental eye spooge in here.

Willem
I think I just decided to stop living in reality altogether. I am going to jump into the internet through my monitor and live in that website.

@Willem, amazing link thanks :)
@Vondur, crazy over-sized factory!

Cool
Looks like DICE visited that place and based the entire visual style of Mirror's Edge on it :)
Chernobyl In Winter
Centralia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centralia,_Pennsylvania

This was a world where no human could live, hotter than the planet Mercury, its atmosphere as poisonous as Saturn's. At the heart of the fire, temperatures easily exceeded 1,000 degrees [Fahrenheit]. Lethal clouds of carbon monoxide and other gases swirled through the rock chambers. - David DeKok (1986)

Re: Centralia
I think I saw a documentary about that place, or at least somewhere very like it; one scientist remarked "we mined to get resources to bomb other countries, and what can you say, it ended up destroying this place too."
True Skate
This is just some iOS skateboard game, but I like the use of color, texture and lighting in these shots. Kind of reminds me of a cross between Mirror's Edge and Team Fortress 2:

I could see a quake 3 map looking really nice with this sort of look.

Just Realised
This room and the mechanics inside are just fucking ace: http://i.imgur.com/Twzvg.jpg (e4m2)

really? i didn't like the way there were just contrived things there to allow you to reach places, like those thick beams and that suspended platform.
That Room
just reminds me how eye-gougingly bad much of the brushwork is in episode 4.

Putting r_fullbright on in that room is the Quake equivalent of opening the curtains for the morning light to illuminate whatever happens to be sharing your bed after a particularly brutal tequila party the night before.

But in both cases, whilst you can barely remember playing with it, you just know it was fun at the time.

necros: That's what I love in Quake. Screw realism.
