Methinks it's a nod to Hayao Miyazaki, who had a beagle (I believe the dog died a few years ago) and drew him in most if not all of his films. 

Heh, that's what William Burroughs does to people, enhanced by Cronenberg's own kind of weird. And that's precisely what I find so appealing in these artists' works! At least now you know what a mugwump is... ;)

it's not one of Cronenberg's best known movies. Glad you liked it! He was at the top of his game back then. These days, not so much. His latest films lack his usual weirdness.

20th Century Women - 7/10

Good characters, good writing, great acting, sloppy filmmaking. There are worse ways to spend 2 hrs than in the company of the semi-autobiographical characters writer-director Mike Mills once again brings to the screen, especially when the performances are so strong (especially from Benning and Fanning but Gerwig, Crudup and newcomer Zumann also put in very good work).

Part coming of age story (shaped via a feminist perspective), part exploration of makeshift family dynamics, part how not to shoot and direct a movie (there are some very strange filmmaking and cinematography choices throughout). 

Ghost In The Shell. Thanks for the above comments. I loved Ghost In The Shell Standalone Complex (anime tv series). Due to this, I fear I may have issues with the movie.

Speaking of anime, if you like a genuine time travel paradox with several layers of paradox baked into the story line, you should watch Steins Gate.

Most frustratingly cerebral plot since the original "The Matrix" -- and it is a joy/aggravating to watch the layers unfold.

Short list of best movies in last 3 years: 10 Cloverfield Lane (fucking awesome +++), Nightcrawler, The Big Short, Enemy, The Grand Budapast Hotel, Snowpierecer, DeadPool, Days of Future Past, Mad Max Fury Road, Wonder Woman.

You people ought to yourself to see Twin Peaks season 3. This night's episode (Gotta Light?) just begs to be seen on a theater screen and was by far and away the most astonishing, weirdest and spectacular hour of TV I've ever witnessed. 

Yes Steins Gate is fantastic. Went a bit dark and depressing in the middle and the science behind their time travel was a bit different but overall one of my favourite anime series.

10 Cloverfield Lane was good too. I wouldn't say best movie in 5 years, but cool ending! 

Huge David Lynch fan here. I'm waiting for the show to be over so I can binge-watch it. 

Because that episode was extremely similar to Eraserhead in many ways, which I think is the best film of all time so I was extremely giddy the whole time. And here I thought Call For Help was the weirdest episode so far. It's amazing that thing was financed and broadcasted. There's just nothing on the level of Twin Peaks, it effortlessly buries everything else. The only series that could rival it was The Wire and that was 15 years ago.

I can't wait until I can watch the whole 18 hours seamlessly since this season is basically one long 18-hour film divided into 18 parts. And now there's a two-week break until the next episode.

Big DL fan here but I don't have Showtime so haven't seen Season 3 of TP.

And for those of you who think he's a god - watch Inland Empire and get back to me with your thoughts. 

Inland Empire is his only film that bored me. Wasn't aware of that dispute thing. 

Massive DL fan but the original Twin Peaks I found a big disappointment. He had the right idea, and started out well, but just went nowhere with irrelevant subplots. It's no surprise it got cancelled. 

I really enjoy Inland Empire. I saw a really good description of it the other day, "a three-hour panic attack". It's definitely not for everyone since there is almost zero narrative structure and the film deliberately looks like shit, but it's something very interesting nonetheless and it just gets under your skin. 

The new season is written from start to finish by Lynch and Frost with no outside interference, and the whole thing is directed by Lynch. This new season also is far more in tone with Fire Walk With Me than the first two seasons.

People who went in expecting to see coffee and pie and quirky humour were sorely disappointed, and last night's episode made quite a few people absolutely furious while the rest of us thought it was an amazing piece of art and something unheard of on TV. 

Tried to watch it, tried again a few more times but never managed to get into the film. Also, I never liked Laura Dern, so it may have something to do with her. She was bearable in Wild at Heart because Nicholas Cage but that's pretty much it for me.

People who went in expecting
It's a mistake to expect anything from Lynch (including weirdness, as evidenced by The Straight Story). 

is one of my favorite Lynch movies so I'm probably gonna love the new season, though I wouldn't have minded if it kept the tone set in the first two. The Man from Another Place will be sorely missed though. Speaking of, I stumbled upon this. Has Anderson gone nuts?
