Quake 4 Mapping Contest From ID Software
As can be seen at http://www.idsoftware.com/ iD has put up a Quake 4 mapping contest, with 8-12 best maps being put into a community map pack to be released by iD.

Basic Rules:

* Maps must be submitted by their author and be of their own design.
* Maps may not use custom textures or models.

How are the maps being judged?

* Maps will be judged on their playability, performance, atmosphere, originality, technical quality, gametype flexibility and file size efficiency.

Where do you send the maps?

* Map submissions should be emailed to: syncerror@idsoftware.com

Deadlines:

* The deadline for entries is January 31st.
Wait
Are these single player maps? DM maps? Any kind of Q4 map? I may have to pick up Q4 if actually stood a chance. Who all plans to participate in this?

i dont give a fuck about this shit :p but if this can give my friend Zwiffle a job then go map bitch!!!
and u jago STFU!
Go Ahead
hey there are 12 spots in the pack
u have pretty good chances
I Bet Most Of These Will Suck
with that ridiculous deadline
LOL, Yeah
Apparently id doesn't know how long it takes to make a decent Q4 map ;D

So we can't even use maps with our own .ase models? Sod that.
Quote From D3w Post
We are not allowed to contain extra media such as textures and models primarily due to copyright reasons. Its very difficult for us to verify who the author of such media is and whether you have proper permission to use it. The additional size that this media adds to the patch is also a (minor) concern. Its just a legal liability issue. While many people do their own work, it would be very easy for someone to "borrow" a texture or model from another game and claim it as their own -- and we would be held liable for distributing it.
I Predict
that 97% of the submissions will be space floaters.

Text_Fish: nope, the maps are intended for competitive Deathmatch, no dm map played in contests is a floater (not even in Quake3).

the stock Quake4 dm maps from id are embarassing except q4dm1. the maps played in contests are custom maps only, made by the community.

they thought holding a community contest like this would help the game with more quality maps, since the id mappers have no clue about balanced item placing or Quake4 movement to assure a good flow for a dm/tdm game.

How dare you speak from the ID pov having no clue at all and unjustly badmouthing them at the same time?
YOU are an embarrassment
From Syncerror@idsoftware.com On The Gametype
Not dm only, but no single player. 1v1, TDM, CTF, ACTF, DZ
I Expect
cardo and zwiffle to get into the industry via this contest. Let's go!

then why aren't the Q4 stock maps played seriously by the community and contests use only custom maps?

and sorry for the confusion: i'm not reffering to ID, but to Raven Software :P

err.. in the last post Speeds goes in title, my name goes in Name. should quit doing drugs while at the computer :/
Hmm
Kinda wish I had Q4 to map for this, but not so much so that I go out and buy it. Oh well.
Im Interested
see what i can do in this alotted time... once i re-acquire the game that is

i expect y'all to assist me by being beta-bitches if i ever get that far.

mmmkay? unless you don't have Q4, I can understand that
Oh, Multiplayer
never mind then :}

I'm more surprised that there are actually people playing Quake 4 seriously. Good luck to any participants, you still have a month and 5 days left.
Aqua
Nothing wrong with doing drugs at the computer :>

Hmm.. I would map for this but there's such a small timelimit to do it in and I'm very busy otherwise! Grr.
